Good video update Jim, but I don't understand what is up with your boot seal? Did you car come with it fitted to the boot lid as all of the Mk1's I have seen have them fitted to the gutter rail and not the boot lid? The one on my Corsair is that way. Thanks Pete:) that's interesting about the Corsair, I always found it odd that it's the opposite way on the Cortina That was it in 2006 when it was road legal, you can just make out the seal. I have some more of the seal before I removed it but can't seem to find it on my phone.

I like that air filter lid. Very cool. Keep the vids coming, I really enjoy them. Thanks Jonsey I used to have a Timavo trumpet for the 28/36 that I think was for a formula Junior - Ideal for a 4 door family car! I wish I hadn't sold it now...

Coming along very nicely.
The boot seal on Anglias was the same probably just he corsair being that bit later and lip seals being the new technology.
I found on the minor that we could hardly shut the doors and boot at first but after a while the seals seemed to settle and its now got a lot better.

Thanks Kevins, It's comforting to know it'll get better. some people in the OC weren't that constructive in their help.
It feels jarring to have to slam a door

Just before I go back to seeing what else I can get knocked off the list I threw the front steels on with a hub cap - I'm happy with the decision I've made but a little annoyed I have 3 steels the same and 1 odd one! If anyone has one that matches please let me know, I want to get a pair remanded but don't want to commit till I have a full set. jim have you managed to track down a matching wheel? I've got a stack of standard Mk1 wheels in my garage of varying styles - if you post up some pictures of the wheels you are trying to match (front and rear) I'll see if have one. cheers Cortinaman

I have spent the last few days clearing the cortina out as she has gone to have the door painted and gapped properly, as door fitment was being worked on I have also asked for the seals to be fitted - it seems to make sense doing it in 1 go. Whilst putting the Cortina back together I have chipped the paint in a few areas which are also being fixed whilst the door is in paint All the clearing out has left me with this... Believe it or not there is a lathe under all that rammel It's a Myford M type that were originally made by Drummond but then Myford took over the production of them during the 2nd world war, this one is dated 1947 if I recall, the belt drive on the back was removed by me to get a bit of extra room when spraying the car but I'm going to get it running again and see if I have enough room to keep it. I'd like a lathe, I don't know a great deal about using them but have plenty of things I want to make with one.

The top wheel looks like an Anglia wheel and the bottom one is the same as the ones I have for my Corsair. Either rim would not look out of place on your Mk1 the top rim is a more poverty spec rim and more unusual.

Happy New Year Jim
Very nice work on the head liner you have achieved a very professional finish to it.
I will be interested to see how you fit the wind screens as my front one has to come out because the rubber is shrinking and it was fitted incorrectly with the stainless trim fitted to the rubber after it was fitted to the car and not to the rubber first, which means it does not lie properly.

Nice work Jim. I somehow missed the last vid, but gaps all look spot on. The latest vid has inspired me to have a go at doing the headlining on mine. I don’t know when I’ll get the chance as I’ve got a fair bit of work planned for the Escort this year, but you’ve certainly made it look easier than I thought it would be. I’ll be taking all your advice.

I was a little nervous going into it but I would suggest giving it a go, doing a test fit and walking away helped as it gave me a bit of time to think about what I was doing - depending on when you're ready to do it and what the situation is like let me know and I'll give you a hand as they're fairly similar, my rates are reasonable!

In between the work on the headlining I was getting a few jobs off the list firstly the distributor, the one I had fitted was a recreation based on the Lucas 45D which is a mechanical advance unit that I bought with the intention of using with a set of bike carbs but seeing as that has been shelved for a rainy day I decided to go back to a 23D and use a vacuum advance unit - I found that idling on the 45 style wasn't great and I have no information on the curve etc. I bought an original 23D and a new vacuum unit and electronic ignition kit and spent a few hours making it look pretty. The engine was much smoother on idle but I need to look at the started as the earth strap was hot whilst cranking. the next think I have been wanting to do it get the bulkhead sealed off - this means new grommets and a great stick gaiter which I bought from the club, sealing the bulkhead means once the window rubbers are all done I can get on with the interior. I gave fitting the rear window a go as the Front is too chipped to use and a replacement is being sorted via my insurance company which helps. The rear screen was pretty dirty but I decided to clean it once in the car as I didn't want to put any weight on it whilst it's not supported, I did remove the stickers beforehand. The RTTS sticker is from the last road trip I did in the Cortina before it came off the road back in 2006 - Ouch! It was soon in and I have since fitted the trim but I'm happy that the glass is going in as it's starting to look like a proper car again

Good job on the headlining. What technique did you use to get rid of the wavy bits? I recently did the headlining on my Avenger and haven't got the heatgun on it yet to tidy it up. I'm not looking forward to it to be honest.
