Edit - Stolen from the back page for you people browsing: The story behind this is previous owner noticed some bearings screaming shortly before the torque tube stopped turning. Not got to the bottom of it yet but the car comes with a welded diff and a nicely tuned carb. Plus green velour. I'm happy. Progress! Here she is being delivered My neighbour. Who I never see. Nice tranny though. Scene y0! Today's progress. Gearbox is disconnected as well as the torque tube at the front. Was hoping just to be able to drop the whole thing but alas no. I can't move the torque tube back off the threads no matter how much I try and lever it off. Any ideas peeps? I retired early as I've got manflu This should be a weekly thing so I'll keep this thread posted!

if its the same as a 505 system you either have to lift the engine out or drop the axel

Hi, You got your gear stick to deal with as it sit on top of the torque tube. It has also have rod above with a small circlip to remove this rod/pin to secure your shift to the bell housing. I think you have to be able to move at least 20cm to take it off though as a prop shaft inside is quite long way into flywheel/clutch plate. So you do have to take your gearbox off.
Good luck, mate.
Cheers Atchi

Thanks fellas, I know what I'm doing now. Turns out the torque tube gets "stuck" as the shaft sits inside the spigot bearing. You can only get it out after disconnecting the box and pulling the shaft out exactly straight Tools bought (I had no half inch allen key sockets), I just need to not be at work now!

......shortly before the torque tube stopped turning. Unless I am reading this wrong, torque tubes don't turn anyway. Surely you have to worry when they start turning? Looking forward to seeing this progress...

So this week saw temperatures of around -3 at night and not much more by day... Monday was my first day off so I jumped into the pug raring to go. Unfortunately the cold had killed it And I had to fork out £130 on a new battery and starter. Ah well, I just hate spending money on something I'm barely going to use after the winter... Tuesday I was raring to go again and jumped in the pug. New starter was turning and the battery was giving plenty of amps. But alas, it was now not fuelling. Fack! The cold had killed it AGAIN. Later turned out to be a fuel stop solenoid. So... Tuesday afternoon I finally get going. To the unit! My problem with removing the box turned out to be 2 hidden bolts on clamps within the torque tube. You'd never know they were there unless you looked. Friends over on V3M had told me the problem was most likely with these clamps, it is a common weak spot on 360s. No problem, let's get her out and have a look. Hmmm... link piece is totally fine. Tested the torque tube and it spins freely. So I focus my attention now on the gearbox. It's making a lovely whine as I turn the input by hand. I then use a screwdriver to select a gear and try turning again... clunk. clunk. clunk. That'd be my gears welded together then. Diagnosis complete! I expect that in the next couple of weeks an epic journey to find rare parts shall happen. Until then, no more real progress. But I'm really happy, I'm on schedule and I know what I need. I really can't wait to go skidding now ;D Piece out.

Nothing much this week. Interior back in: Exhaust needed a little bit done. Yay hobby welders, but there's no holes in it at least... Gearbox is in the post still, there's nothing left to do really to get it back on the road other than putting everything back together. Roll on next week!

So I waited around all day for UPS to deliver my box but it was about 5pm before I got suspicious. Gave them a call and alas "we've lost the label, sorry. Can deliver again tomorrow?" I opted to go pick it up instead. Not too much disservice as they helped me load it in the pug, even let me drive right into the warehouse! By 6.30 I was in the unit undoing the box I got a bit stuck trying to get the vibration damper off but I suddenly had a thought - what if the parts I need off the 360 box are knackered? curse word. I looked in and sure enough - it's not the gear that's broken but it's not far off. Picture doesn't show it too well but I hope you can see how worn out the input gear is (almost 2mm off each gear!) But then this was sitting outside the unit complex, so I was still smiling: SOOO it looks like I'll have to source a 360 box anyway. Nevermind. Looks like I'll have to tax and MOT the pug now.

Awesome dude! I've got a few ideas ranging from the most likely (2.3 b230 on twin webbers) to the crazy (V6 B280 ) Nothing is happening for a while though, I just want to drive the thing first.

Gearbox prepped, welded diff fitted. In she goes... IN! I made that look easy, this actually took me all day... All gears tested, seems ok although I couldn't hear anything over the engine shouting through the downpipe.

Do you really need to ask? Looking at next Wednesday.
The car is pretty much there, just that I've run out of free days to swap over the insurance, go tax it etc.
