Quick question for ACE.
I know some people with FTO's with factory fitted HID's but no washer system. There seems to be panic within their communities that these cars will suddenly become non-road legal.
Can you shed any light on what might happen when the new rules come into effect?

Shouldn't this kind of thing be applied to new cars only ie; you wouldn't fail a pre war vintage car for not having 3-point seatbelts ?

The new HID rules are very lenient. Basically they say if the car has headlight washers and self levellers fitted they must work. It's not a requirement for them to have them fitted though.

I did read that there was no way of testing the self levelling, so would be given the benefit of the doubt.

What about fitting after Market HID kits to various cars? I heard this was going to be made illegal?

Nope there's no mention of aftermarket HID kits in the manual and therefore if you can get them to go through a beam pattern test they're legal.
