Euurgh, some sort of freak hybrid.
It has more than a whiff of Allegro about it too, around the rear screen and the front wing.
I wonder if its one of those weird advert cars, like the Austin 1000 / Dolomite hybrid used in one of the latest Post Office ads, or a petrol advert from the eighties which was a mixture of Sierra and Toyota Carina.
The hippy happy clappy drum thing on the boot makes me think that mind altering substances may have been involved in the conception of this hideous Aullegro Contimental!!

The post office thingy is a factory car, it's an Austin Apache. Marketed in South Africa? Wasn't it an 1100 / 1300 given a restyle by Michelotti, hence the resemblence to Triumphs of the day...? Edit! - Found an Apache pic, And here's a nice little link to some info about them!!!! www.austin-rover.co.uk/index.htm?ado16sa2f.htm

Re: The Mystery Audi: I've spent some time scouring t'internet and can find nowt! Theory so far: Rear lights look familiar - Granada Mk2 or Datsun 1xx (Datsuncherry or Eddie are bound to know). Big round front lights off an early 244 Volvo? Plastic Grille: ? The shortening looks to have been carried out fairly professionally: Obviously someone with some skill but no cash / taste! The boot mounted spare must be a result of lack of space INSIDE the boot as it is shorter, and the front end is a bit of a dog's breakfast. Home made repairs as a result of a front and rear end incident: That's where my money's going.... Anybody else care to take a stab / shoot me down in flames etc.?

To me the front wings look like Morris Ital jobs - maybe that wierd grille aswell. Back lights... early VW Jetta? Those round headlights could be off anything I guess, but yeah they look a bit Japanese-y to me too, especially with those side repeaters. What a strange, strange car! Good find! ;D

That sounds about right to me, similar jobs are done in Western African countries where spares are non existant, and Maltese buses are very much made out of the parts of various buses and lorries, so that they're more built from scratch than modified.
