Ah, looking at that diagram I see your problem.
You're switching the "ground" for the relay coil, not the "normal" way where you'd switch the positive feed and leave the ground connected to ground.
The LED in the switch is working backwards because it's seeing 12v on one side of it, until you turn the switch "on" and then both sides become ground.
Robin's suggestion to sort things seems reasonable.
