A mate of mine is looking at a 2.5 8V Porka 944.
Anyone had or got one.
What do i need to look for?
The one he is looking at is a D plate 129k miles and has a some surface rust on the tailgate and the sills (I thought that these cars were galvinised?
Any advice please.
Cheers
Stevie

a full porsche service history is a definate plus, the engines will go on for miles if they are properly serviced.listen out for clonks from the suspension, they can be expensive to rectify ,and make sure all the interior trim is present and its good nick as its scarily expensive.as for the rust, sounds a bit suspect to me,i thought at least the main shell was galvanised, which might explain why the tailgate is rusty but why the sills.oh and all the usual checks for damage etc especially apply as porsche 944's parts are charged at porsche prices and pattern aprts are a bit shoddy at times.

;D Parts 2 & 3 on the right. "I've got a wide range of warning lights on already" (I know that's for the 928, by the way )

I had a 2.5 Lux bought privately and a 3.0 S2 from trade.
The shells were galvanised, not sure if all the bolt-on metalwork was.
Make sure the engine is sound, my 2.5 needed over £700 of work because the previous owner had decided to do the servicing work himself. This was just replacing parts that were damaged by him being ham-fisted; belts, pulleys, seals etc, nothing internal.
Make sure all electrics work properly, they are expensive to replace. I had trouble with electric window motors, ABS circuitry, dash wiring.
Sunroof on both leaked; the drain channels run all the way down inside the rear pillars and out the rear somewhere near the tail-lights and get blocked.
Suspension is adjustable to an extent, handling on my S2 was scary on bumpy roads until I had it set up properly, then it was great and cornered really flat with little roll.
Some of the trim can be bought cheaper from VW or Audi; eg. Golf exterior door handles and Audi speaker grilles. Had the front and rear seats of the 2.5 retrimmed by a domestic upholsterer far cheaper than I would have expected.
Aaron.

This has been covered before - but I can't find the thread! Couple of rust areas to look for: bottom of the wings leading edges of the outer sills guttering round boot Also check to make sure both headlights pop up together. It's common for the diff to make a bit of noise, but doesn't normally cause a problem - if it does then it's an expensive job! You've got to have a small penis to have one................i think i might get one. Not sure this was an entirely constructive comment...but there are a few people on here with 944's (myself included) so it might be wise to keep these comments to yourself.

It does have rust at the bottom of the sills at the start of the rear quarter. Hard to replace? It also has some rust below the numberplate where the Porsche script is. Does not look like it has holed though! I have a tiny penis, so it will suit me down to the ground. ;D

The sills are quite easy to replace, but if it doesn't need a whole sill you can get away with a patch as the stone guard paint will hide the weld
The rust under the number plate won't have holed - treat it before it gets worse though.
