Hi all,
Quick question from someone with only half an idea what's going on.
So in the summer i bought a 1970 triumph vitesse. It's in really good condition but the engine has never idled smoothly like a six should. I took it upon myself to learn how to set it up, so I bought a colour tune and a carb balencer. I've set it up as best I can but she's still idling badly.
I went through the receipts and one thing I missed was a bill for a stage 2cam.
So here's the dilemma. I'm assuming the cam is in the car hence the ropey idle. Sadly the previous owner has since passed away so I can't confirm. I've done some research and a hotter cam means I'm probably going to put new needles in the su's and the timing will need to be adjusted. I spoke to the people who made the cam, canley classics, who said the head would need to be ported to get the best from it.
So the question. If I get the work done to get the car to run properly will it have the smooth burbling six idle, or will it always be lumpy? Found a place that would set it up on a rolling road for a reasonable price, ironically the same price as refitting a standard cam.
Any help or advice appreciated.
Ben.
