Not heard of the Jules Verne pub, any idea where it used to be? Doing a bit of web research looks like it burnt down and was rebuilt with a different name, it was in west Coventry. Used to go to the pub near the station that The Specials rehearsed in. Went back a few years ago bit of a dump now. Mark

Ah yes, the Coventry street names. How they always perplex newcomers to the town when I take certain streets ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) .

![](http://i42.tinypic.com/15fk9ph.jpg) There's car themed area near the M6 / M42 Junction of Castle Bromwich which I think may have had something to do with Lanchester or Pressed Steel Fisher and a short distance away is Castle Vale which was built on the old Castle Bromwich Airfield. This was one of the Shadow factories that produced Spitfires & Lancasters and now Jaguar XJ, XK & XFs roll out of here ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Most of the roads in this area have an aviation link maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=castle+vale,+Birmingham&hl=en&ll=52.519211,-1.786544&spn=0.008174,0.022724&sll=52.481892,-1.797466&sspn=0.032722,0.090895&vpsrc=6&hnear=Castle+Vale,+West+Midlands,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=16 Annabelles balloons must be pretty special to warrant a mention on a map lol (sorry couldnt resist) Let me know when someone allocates a Subaru Street somewhere for me to live on and i'll be there ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Chas, you might want to mention that you are a Taxi driver, otherwise that sentance sounds dodgy ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ;D Interestingly (to me at least) when we got a cab home from The Whitefriars a few weeks ago, London Road was closed de to a nasty accident and the can zigzagged all over the place eventually emerging at the new roundabout on Humber Road and it was cheaper than the normal simple route home. There was a Rootes factory on Humber Road but I think that this is coincidence. I have several old maps of Cov and on the 1912 edition there is a Hillman Motor Works on Humber Road. The Humber works were apparently in Folly Lane but I can't find that on any maps old or new, though there is a Folly Lane Old Boys club on London Road in Whitley. To add to the fun on trading estate road names, there's also a Herald Way and Hotchkiss Way on the far side of town from Canley in Binley. Jules Verne pub is now called the New Spires and is at the south end of Grayswood Avenue, just off Old Allesley Road, so not far from the old Canley works. Now, I wonder how many of you who don't know the area can pronounce Stivichall?

How do you post a shot of maps? There's a similar estate around here.

I'm sure this isn't new, especially to people living in Coventry.. I was looking at google maps of Coventry and noticed that the street names of what was the Canley factory are, Dolomite Ave Herald Ave Spitfire Close Toledo Close Renown Ave Vanguard Ave. Just watching the Top Gear where they drive round all the old BL factories, and along those very roads. Very depressing.
