Am I the only one getting this annoying pop-up banner on every page of this site? I click the 'x' in the corner but it comes back as soon as I go to another page.
Adblocker just comes up with the option to block the RR background when I right click on the pop-up.
It's flipping annoying and hope it goes very, very soon....

As above. It's pretty major stuff as far as the interweb is concerned. Both bills are paraded as for "piracy reduction" but are (intentionally?) poorly written so that they would have massive consequences on general free use of the internet. They'll also have zero effect on piracy. Good bit of info on it here: blog.reddit.com/2012/01/technical-examination-of-sopa-and.html

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't want to click the link to find out more in case it went to some dodgy marketing thing (call me a cynic, I don't mind ) That all makes sense and now that I am aware what it's all about, it no longer bothers me at all. It'll be a shame if some narrow minded bureaucrats get their way and effect the rest of the world. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen heh? Thanks again guys

So if these bills go thru, Can the yanks literally take control of what is actually shown on the web?
Or is that a load of curse word? Heard it mentioned alot by people today...
Bit worrying if they have the ability SOMEHOW to effect freespeech, Let alone freespeech OUTSIDE the US.

Wrote this on the wikipedia facebook link.
"From 8 year old children looking for help with their schoolwork, to 90 year pensioners who use it as a lifeline to see the world digitally, the internet is a means of communication and exploration that we need. If the internet becomes regulated and controlled, we will be losing out on the most important source of information the world has ever seen, and once that first step has been taken, it will open the way to more and more regulations that will in the end mean the internet is nothing more than government controlled media. Please don't let this happen, we need the internet to stay open for all our sakes."
Wonder if they will listen though.
