Have there been any changes or can i tape over non working front fogs and pass.
as i heard you can't just tape over rusty holes any more?

they are not tested on the front though if they have sharp edges they wont like it.

oh so I don't even need to tape them up, i was under the impression if it was fitted it had to work for fogs?
they aren't broken, ones not working and I really cba to investiage why as i don't use them and i know if i buy a bulb it'll turn out to be something else

to be safe I would quickly remove them if possible. Can't test them if they are not fitted and not requried by law for your year of vehicle.

^ Why? Front fogs are not an oligatory lamp - there is NO legal requirement to have them, or for them to work regardless of vehicle age.
This means they are not now and never have been testable, and taking them out is just extra work for no gain.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in |

I thought any (external) lamp fitted to a vehicle had to work whether required by law or not?
A chap I knew years ago had a Morris 1100 type thing fail its MOT because of a DIY fitted rear fog light not working.
I got pulled by a copper for a spot light which was bust on a 1970 Vauxhall. I said it was not a statutory light and I was told it if was fitted it had to be in operable condition.

Only obligatory lamps  A rear foglamp fitted to a vehicle not required to have one must work. Front spots and fogs are not obligatory and not tested at MoT. As far as the police go, if you have a pair of spots fitted, one is broken AND you are using them they can complain about it. It's the fact that you are displaying asymetric lights that is the offence, not the fact that the spotlight doesn't work. |

light was not in use, glass was missing, copper let me go with a telling off.

Front fogs are not part of the mot unless they are showing signs of sharp edges but when i say sharp edges this means can any one be hurt or damage them selfs by them

I got a fail because I had 2 fitted and only one worked.
I got a pass by unplugging the wire to the working one...

I had one spot and one fog on the front of the 2300S, quite a normal set up I believe and had no troule with that. ave since gone over to 2 fogs though. Auxiliary lighting isn't tested. You don't even need reverse lamps. I always thought if it was fitted, it had to work but this is not the case.
Have done 2 tape up jobs recently on rusty old Discoveries and one on a broken plastic bumper, no problems there either.

Mine was because "The working one's on the nearside of the vehicle and comes on with the main beam".
I had them wired in a big ad-hoc, they were independently switchable but came on too if the main beams were switched on.
To be fair the guy was good about it and as it was that and an advisory on a balljoint with a bit of slop, he called me in, I unhooked it and that was it.
