Since the departure of the 2 door was imminent (has now left) I went to that there fancy London to meet Pixlefill (Huw) and collect a 4 door I was offered as a spares car. It turned out to be a far better base to work with than the 2 door, plus it came with tax and MOT.
It was sold as a non runner and had been parked up since september last year. To get it running all it took was turn the car so the nose was facing downhill, bit of pressure in the tank to force some fresh fuel through, prime the fuel pump and away she went
Quick check of all the fluids and tyre pressures and we were off. Just over 2 hours later we arrived in Lincoln, I was extremely impressed at how well the car rides, so smooth and controlled.
Back at the unit, the new owner of the 2 door wanted the steels and the original captains steering wheel so off they came, minilites on the 4 door, winning.
And despite being the same year as the 2 door its got some differences, like no rev counter and inertial reel seatbelts instead of the adjustable straps.
The previous owner spent a lot on it in the last 2 years, its been well looked after in the past. The most interesting thing is that on the previous MOT it failed for a broken suspension spring so the garage fitted 900 springs. Its low, a lot lower than the 2 door which is great for me as thats one of my initial aims but maybe a point of note for other 99 owners?
Whats next? Not a lot really. The top of the rear seat needs re-trimming, some rust blooms to look at. Needs a good tune up, the gearbox is a bit noisy, and 2nd is a bit hard to engage when cold so maybe change the gearbox fluid. Stereo install, new wheels, done.
