Model: 523i se Year: 1996 Mileage: 101k Tax: end of May 12 MOT: October 12 Pics: Location: Dartford Price: £500 Contact details: reply here or pm please only got this on here monday, it lasted a day. I'm 99% sure it needs a head gasket, loses water mayo in oil but header tank is clean so far & aslong as I keep it topped up it doesnt over heat. I don't have the time or experience to fix it. id rather not lose too much money on it ofcourse & if I had the space id break it & make good money cos the body work is very good indeed. got new tyres for the rear wheels, one isnt amazing but its legal so will do the job, the other has done less than 100 miles so is basically brand new for someone with the knowledge to do the gasket them self itd be a bargin comes with these & standard alloys. I can cash the tax & weigh it in for £300 & still have the 17"s to sell on so I'm not gonna slaughter it to much BUT this car is far far to clean to see the scrap yard open to swaps with cash either way £500

Yeah my mate keeps saying the same as he used it & it worked but if I'm honest after it lasting less than 2 days I've totally lost heart in it. I wouldn't put that in it & sell it as working, Id rather lose the money than knock someone with a wrong'un.
Appreciate the thought though fella, thanks

Cheers mate, nice to know honesty is still appreciated.
Indeed it's a shame more people arnt like this. It'd be very easy to clean it all out & slap some liquid gasket in it then punt it on to someone else but that's not me, I'd be better off if it was me though lol

If it doesn't sell by the time I get the log book back then it'll be scrapped & the wheels will be for sale. They came with bald rears, I bought one that's now done less than 100 miles & one that's not great but it's legal & it'll do the job for afew months. They seem to be on eBay for silly money but that doesn't mean they sell lol. With the new tyres I'd like to see as close to £175 as I can for em

If it has overheated then as well as getting the gasket replaced the chances are the head will need work and you're doing the honest thing by selling for parts - HOWEVER the six cylinder E39's are VERY awkward to bleed properly so that all the air locks are out - so much so that I lifted mine with a jack, made sure that the plastic bleed screw was the highest thing and to be absolutely sure had it running (and being bled/topped up) for over an hour. It is a pain in the proverbial but may well be worth a try.
In any event good luck with it.
