Been a lurker for a year now but it's took me this long to work out how to transfer my pictures! Ok I know it's another old beemer and it's not modded but it's a great old boat an I thought it may be of interest. I bought her a year ago from this very forum from a decent young man in Evesham, he wanted rid of it so I got it for £470 with a long MOT,comprehensive service history from day one and free delivery! Have'nt done too much to it as I've not needed to other than the remote oil filter conversion to solve the slow oil pressure build up problem. It's proved very reliable and returns a regular 24mpg in everyday use. Great cars, well built and suprisingly easy to run on a tight budget. ![](http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/unbun/triumphtr7v032.jpg) ![](http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/unbun/triumphtr7v038.jpg) ![](http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/unbun/triumphtr7v033.jpg)

Thanks. Re the remote filter set up. As you probably know the m30 is a very tough engine but it has a couple of problems on the lubrication side which can lead to poor oil pressure. The first are the two bolts that hold down the oil spray bar above the cam, they work loose over time and the cam becomes starved of oil, they were both loose on this engine, I drilled and lockwired 'em. The second fault is faliure of the non return valve in the bottom of the oil canister which means every time you start up you have to fill the canister before you get oil pressure, mine was taking nearly 20 seconds to get to pressure. I had a go at repairing the valve following a guide on a US site but it was'nt succesful however on the same site a remote filter kit was pictured that was available over there, it looked so simple I thought I'd copy it. So I got a slab of alloy cut to the same shape as the cannister base, holes drilled and tapped to match the pipe fittings and bought all the hoses, filter housing etc from James Lister who supply that sort of stuff, made up a bracket and bolted it on. I now get full pressure in 2 seconds, it was pretty easy and believe me I'm no engineer!

Nice car! The oil filter conversion looks similar to the one fitted to my Fiat twin cam - is it a Mocal?
You can chip these cars for useful extra power and economy - see 'Speedtouch' on the E30 Zone for one. I had one fitted to my F-reg 535iSE and it made quite an improvement!

Nice 535, much nicer than my shabby heap, this is my second (sold the 1st one and couldn't bear to be without): ![](http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/ww238/rjuk1982/e34%20535%20i%20sport/2011-12-31155702.jpg) I'm no expert but the fantastic torque build up of the M30 makes it one of the finest things I've ever driven on the road, I just love them. Great filter kit BTW, my first car had pressure build up issues but I never tried to fix it because it was only about 5s at start up. When I start to make mine nice I'll have to start a rides thread too. Rob

Thanks everybody, yeah the filter holder is mocal all the other parts were over the counter and the adaptor was home made, I'll take a couple of close up pics just to show how simple it is. I think it definately improves oil pressure but my real reasoning behind it was the fact that the BMW oil canister would probably have cost me as much as the cars worth! MIB. I've been following this engine and it and the car it's going into really are superb,I'm sure with your skills you would be able to knock one of these filter adaptors up in a couple of hours.

OK, heres some more detailed pictures; ![](http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/unbun/triumphtr7v042.jpg) ![](http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/unbun/triumphtr7v041.jpg) ![](http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd503/unbun/triumphtr7v043.jpg) The mounting brackets a bit rough I'm going to make up an aluminium one and get it welded to the manifold support bracket, saying that nothings moved or leaked in the last six months.

Great stuff, thanks. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I'll have to put one on the to-do list. I was going to go for an accumalator but this needs less room. Any plans for your e34? I do think they're handsome looking cars and anything with an M30 has to be good.

Yeah, they are great cars probably the last of the real BMWs(or maybe I'm just showing my age!) and they are starting to disappear from the roads or get broken up for parts at the slightest breakdown. I'm thinking anything I do to it will be along the lines of reliability and longevity, it needs a little work on the rear arch and sill so these are top of the list. I like its understated looks aswell, gonna try and hang onto it cos too many times I've got rid of a nice car only to regret it later. Glad folks like it though!
