just a quickie here.
For an MOT, is it sufficient to secure a battery using some sort of canvas strap setup rather than a clamping system?
the new battery in my hillman has a much smaller footprint than the one that came out so the stock clamp is next to useless.
I will make something permanent but for the time being would strapping it be a pass? I would guess so as the battery will be secure.
cheers

I'm pretty sure loose battery is only an advisory, i made the error of taking my capri for mot a month or so ago and when i came to it, battery was flat, so a quick change was done and i totaly forgot abowt the clamps.
aslong as your going to sort it properly afterwards anyway!

If he had taken it this year indeed, note the date on the bottom Thought that date was to do with the addition of tow hitch electrics being part of the test

I've got cars though with a small ratchet strap or luggage strap but be aware that it is best only used temporarily. Webbing doesn't like battery acid much so if it passes over the vents on the top it'll rot through eventually.

on my mx5 i fitted a non std size battery. i made a tray out of sheet aluminium, drilled a couple of holes in each side, which alloy a pair of short bungee cords to be hooked onto the sides of the tray, i then bolted the whole assembly to the boot floor of the mx5 (the battery is in the back as std) holds the battery very securely

pound shop ratchet strap has got me many a pass in the past on cars with missing clamps. Yep, baby ratchet straps have worked for me a few times. Sometimes as temporary fix - but some have stayed temporary for a couple of years

Inner tube and bungee cord for me. Clip on holds tight and no faffing with bolts FTW.
