NOT the rover 820. The worst car I ever owned and an istant qualifier for 'old duffer club'! Metro thing OK, Pug, just a Pug.

I was thinking it might be a tough choice until you mentioned the 3L Nissan Saloon. Get the sills buzzed up... sorted!

Pug 205.
I love them, they are absolutely bullet-proof and wicked fun, even in standard form. If you pressed 'Russell' about it, I'm sure he'll recount tales of me scaring him silly in my old 1.1.
And my dad has owned one for the last 6 years and it has never, ever given any grief despite skimpy servicing and general neglect.

Seconded on the 205
EVERY model is a joy to drive. Diesels are silly slow but its all about the handling.

question is - what do you want to achieve out of this? Reliable winter transport? Well best to look for a decent reliable car thats on the road now rather than somethign that needs work to put it there or you'll end up with more cars with no ticket and no transport. Ask me how I know.
A mate in the same position to you picked up a Pug 205 with like a 900cc motor of a 18 year old daughter of a mate of ours for like £150. She'd been bought it by here parents as a first car and she was "embarrassed" to be seen in it so first chance she got she got 10000 year 1000% finance on a 54 plate Clio and bobbed the Pug off. And its mint, its on a J plate and its been no bother for the year my mates had it and the 3 or 4 months she had it. All good.
Buying some rotten gas guzzling Nissan from the other end of the country is what you do when you have a reliable cheap motor in place as a daily.
Buying a Metro is somethig you do when you have lost your mind and control of you bowels.

I'd be tempted by the Nissan, with all its virtues of reliability blah blah, but the Pug 205 is the sensible choice. Cheap to run, a hoot to drive, parts are plentiful and you shouldn't lose money on it. Ands there's a the possibility of selling the plate to some tool with more money than sense.

There are some level-headed people round here fortunately! My instant reaction was to go for the Nissan, but the more sensible option would be the Pug 205. I've never been that sensible, which is probably why I have no road-legal car at present ;D

yeah i was trying to find winter hack as I'm about to run out of motd cars - the only motd one being the one that has no undamaged panels on the front end due to a pole (don't ask) but none of them are really the ticket, i'm thinking seriously about buying all three except the 205, and doing a few quick mots and making some money off the local foreigners who have somehow caught on i move through a fair few vehicles lol
