Thought this may be of interest to some of you Mods if it isnt, feel free to remove. This very clean early Mk5 escort with zero rust and only 22k on the clock has been garaged all its life, sadly the elderly gent who owned it passed away and so his wife cant bear the thought of anyone else driving it has passed it on to a local garage with orders for it to be broken and scrapped

It's a bit of a shame but hey, you can't save 'em all.

So her husband loved and cared for the car, washed it every sunday after church, kept it in a warm garage, and regularly serviced it, and now he is turning in his grave as his wife has scrapped it

well to be honest I was just gobsmacked as ive never seen an early mk5 with its original sills and rear arches lol ;D you could eat your dinner off the engine and the front slam panel which I think is a major weak spot on these shows no signs of being eatened by rust monsters
anyway,as dbizzle says,no use crying over spilt milk,i just thought it was worth a post.

It's not uncommon for Old folks to do this.

It's not uncommon for Old folks to do this. Yeah, better this than let it rot into ground...... At least someone will get use of some very good parts.

The car her husband cherished being used to help others live on is, I think, far more romantic an idea than it rusting away or being modified into the ground. I can only imagine how much it would hurt to see a car that you associated so strongly with a loved one being driven by someone else, no matter how well they looked after it.

Could have been worse, imagine if the old guy had bought a mk5 Cosworth and she was scrapping that

Its a shame, but its totaly understandable. A few years back I heared of a sub 20k 1978 Austin Maxi that was owned by a old chap who had to give up driving. He GAVE it to a local banger racer dispite sizeable offers from various enthusiasts. To say it looked like it had just come off the prodution line was not a exageration. His reason for doing this was ''If it cant be mine then it sure cant be anyone elses''
Respect.

This is quite sad. I had a similar problem with mine last year. I had a mk5 for sale and cutting a long story short it had a problem with it which came to light when i was trying to sell it. nobody would have it off me for even £200 offerd on ebay and here. In the end i had to let banger racers have it for £150 and it was the worst decision i've ever made as i now know realised how much i liked that car. It was kinda curse word, but if i'd sorted the engine it would have been ok. Anyways i think there not sort after enough at the moment. Although nobody realises how rare they are now. I'll never find another like the one i had.... and that had only one weld patch, origional sills etc. Shame

Well that's the first and probably last escort GLX I've ever seen. I didn't know such a model existed! I'd imagine it's worth far more in parts given it's excellent condition, who can argue with that?
