You know you want it!! ;D
Believe me, I'd be on my way to pick up that lovely Lada at the moment if I wasn't skint and borrowing space on my parents' driveway to store my cars as it is!!

That'd be the lovely Lada which would match this quite nicely, and isn't all that far away from me, and is now residing on my "watch" list! ;D Hahahaha!

Axle: reverse a Renault 30 one. That will fit, right? G/box? Let my mechanic friend sort that bit. Leave him alone for long enogh in a drafty shed and he's bound to come up with something!

Wouldn't the standard axle be up to the job? I have a mate with Alfa flat four powered Beetles and bay windows who uses standard VW boxes/axles for them.

You're probably right but a car so light won't need hundreds of horses to seriously shift!

The standard gearbox has some horsepower limitations. Straight cut gears would help if you could find them. Talk to southcoastskoda. If it has been done, he'll know. Mine has a rebuilt engine with a 5spd box. It's sprightly.

Converted my old 4 speed swing axle (series 1 rapid) to a 5 speed semi trailing. Apparently it's a difficult job, but it all just seemed to bolt together. Also, a lancia/fiat twin cam is a really easy swap with adaptor plate for the box and a simple engine mount bar (Rmad is up on these). I plonked a 2.2 lancia lump in mine with about 140bhp. Never had a problem with the gearbox, and the late 4-pot brakes are well up to the job as standard. Bung in a sticky clutch, and nothing front-wheel drive will be able to touch you at the lights. Marvellous!

I'm now the owner of a Skoda Rapid 136 'SPORT'...1990 on a G with a highly tuned 1289cc Skoda engine in the rear...its said to be pushing out around 135 bhp at the flywheel but this has yet to be proved...although a quick blast up the road proved to be very quick...as soon as i've got some pix i shall get them posted.

Nice! All this stuff is alien to me. I don't feel the need to change the engine on the Imp, even though the highest possible power figure can't be a great deal over 120bhp, and that would be with some pretty extreme mods on. Probably because the engines a very willing and responsive one (and a highly tuned one will rev to over 12000 rpm, although it flat spots before 10000 so you won't get much more power out of it at that point,) and Imps have light engines, made of a light alloy, so I'd be afraid to destroy the balance and handling with a heavy engine, and the suspension is quite advanced for its age and designed to counteract tail-happiness a bit, so I'd be afraid, again to kill the handling. Remember I want a rallyable car, even if it means I cant show off as a hardcore veteran modifier type and expert fabricator, and the car would get murdered against serious competiton on a drag strip. Mind you, I've always felt that a well set up rear engined car can eat alive anything on a road with a lot of curves.

Didn't you bend this one? Nope - someone offered me silly money for it with the juice removed, so it had to go (the only lowerider I haven't broken!). Last I heard it was being prepared for hill climb racing, although I don't talk to the new owner anymore as he T-boned me in my Smart car. I cannot take full credit for this car though, as I bought it from RMad with a twin-cam sort of bolted in. He bought it from Mart, so it did the rounds! Good fun tho...
