As my X30XE-engined Scimitar will need a custom exhaust, I like the idea of a pair of bike silencers poking out the back.
I'd be interested to know how well they silence a car, whether using stock or aftermarket cans, and if that was the only box used in the system. Has anyone any experience to offer?
TIA

I've used bike cans mate on my beetle ( sounded very nice ) and then on my mk1 caddy . As the bore wasn't that big the loudness was a 6 or 7 out of ten beautiful on full chat . And when I used a full carbon can on my beetle I had many comment on how good it sounded when idling . It's the id of the pipe that makes an exhaust loud and bike cans don't come much over 2inch

Well generally, aftermarket bike cans will be louder, due to them being a performance part ( less baffles, more air flow ) so that clears that up. If you go with stock cans, put them on with no other silencers then if it's too loud, add one. And keep adding them till it's right.

I put an OE can off some honda on my T25, and even with it as the only silencer, the system was barely louder than stock. It looked wibblepoo though so came off.

I used the carbon can off a yamaha R1, i have a stock can for the MOT and one that i peeled and made straight through for other off road use officer. The (ahem) off road one sounded great with the rover V8. I'm about to fit a pair to the rover once the lexus engine install is finished.

I need to whip something up for my (turbo) S12 silvia. I wonder if these are better than cheap ebay backboxes...?

I used a ebay generic carbon bike can on my Imp and it was much quieter than the straight through janspeed exhaust it had before, but the exhaust was about 2ft longer. It made a lovely sound with the bike can.

I welded a can from a FZR1000 on the back of a 106 that belonged to my ex-girlfriend's son. Sounded ok, looked ridiculous.
EDIT: the make was something like "Abramovich"

Ta for the input. What caddygaz suggests was what I was thinking of doing to experiment 'til I was happy.
I don't need 'em right now, but will be keeping an eye on ebay to see what turns up.

I used a viper bike can from a 600cc bike on my mk1 mr2 race car. It was pretty much curve of manifold, flexi, straight and bike can. Welded it up and it worked perfectly. It had the bolt in baffle. With baffle in it registered 94db. With it removed it was 102db.
