I have a very sick 1982 Mercedes W123 200, I ordered some fuel line parts from Mercedes and they all fitted nicely except what I believe is the carburetor return pipe? I've replaced the one fuel line going into the carburetor and that's fine but the one coming out of it has a 3 or 4mm opening. It's about 12 inches long and runs into another fuel line but that has a 8mm opening!! I've tried everywhere for a reducer, anything that will work but no one has anything !! Is anyone breaking a W123 or know of anyway I could join the 2 ends? I've tried a 8mm pipe with jubilee clips on the 3mm end but it doesn't stay put. Mercedes now claim the part they sent me has been replaced with multiple parts that cost over £100 and I really can't afford that right now, i've got two lots of car insurance and tax coming out in a week I'm based in Huddersfield if anyone can help, please please please!
Sorry MODS I originally put this in the wanted section.... I think this might be the right place now?

Weasel you star, thanks buddy! Would having 3 bits of pipe, getting smaller by 2mm each time held with a jubilee clip be too much to ask of that line, under load and pressure? Or is it asking for trouble, until I can afford the proper fix in a few months? Sorry that's as technical as I can manage

Well, it certainly has more spots that can cause trouble... But I think the smal one is a return line anyway, so not under a lot of pressure. Mmmhh... Wait a minute... *runs to car* ... *comes back* The return line is next to the line coming from the fuel pump (on both carb & fuel pipes inthe car). On my carb it's the same diameter as the feed line. And there'S a third line runing from below the feed & return connection to the manifold. Do you have a picture? I'm not too well into those Strombergs. And I think there are many different types anyway... But doing it like this, with two reducers, should be good to go and last quite long if you don't bend the lines between the reducers too much
