I've done one of these threads in the last week of December for the last few years but things conspired against me this time around so here it is a bit late. Basically its just an excuse to have a decent look back through my photos of the year and pick out some memorable cars/moments. Some events are represented by several photos and some are not here at all.
A pair of Miuras seems as good a place as any to start, from the Goodwood Breakfast Club in March. I'd got up mega early to head there via Brighton to pick someone up who was responsible that day for the start of my Motor Sport magazine collection....
Also there that day this pretty S800
and a very rare Fairlady ZG.
Naturally there were many visits to the Ace, this shot from April when it starts getting a bit lighter in the evenings.
Wheels Day was a blast in really good weather.
I fell in love with this '35 three window at the Ace Spring Riot.
Enfield Pageant was as eclectic as ever.
My second visit to Crystal Palace. Such a good event. Really ought to sort out an RR stand in the show for '12
This Porsche was the first race 911 in the UK and had been family owned for yonks if I remember right.
More cool stuff at the Ace,
including my favourite carb set up.
I hitched a ride in a Dodge Dart to the Nostalgia Drags in June.
And then came the Festival of Speed. Such a brilliant weekend. Right place right time to see this lawn mower.
Does it get better than polished carb stacks poking through a diamond tuck and roll covered parcel shelf?
If I'm going to get run over then a Porsche 917 is a pretty cool choice of car.
Ickle_Seth gets into the swing of taking detail photos. She plays with a diecast 250LM my dad bought once upon a time so was quite pleased to see a real one.
And taking photos of stuff like this....
results in the occasional stone bouncing off me and dust entering my soul.
After Goodwood it was back to normal life. If a road legal version of a 1940/50's era American race car,
and stuffing bikes into the back of a Swinger is normal
Uxbridge Auto Show was damp and showery.
It stayed dry for Classics on the Common at Harpenden though.
Its a great evening with cars parked all over the shop.
The first of two visits to Brands Hatch for Retro Cars track events.
A good sunny evening for an incredibly packed Classics on the Green at Croxley. Fiat Neckar Weisnberg
and Corvair were highlights.
Back for another Goodwood Breakfast Club, this trio were in the car park.
Then in August I think the RR Gathering really found its home.
A few weeks later I spent a damp morning mooching about in Birmingham.
Fortunatly later that morning the weather brightened up and the Kop Hill CLimb was simply fantastic. An absolute must do again in '12 this had such a good atmosphere and some pretty amazing cars.
I managed a couple of visits to the Chelsea Cruise in the Autumn.
In November I finally persuded Mrs and Ickle_Seth to get up at five on a Sunday morning for The London to Brighton run.
This was without doubt the coolest two wheeler I saw in 2011
Another quick stop at the 2nd Retro Cars do at Brands Hatch.
To finish off a nice wintery scene from a small Rootes car gathering at Kempton Steam pumping station in SW London.
Dang! That was a good year!
