ive been sorting out wiring up the 2.8 iveco turbo diesel in the pickup tonight.
with the help of the factory manual (cheers ben!) ive tracked and traced all the wiring, eliminated what i don't need and labelled what i do, ready to wire up.
this engine is different to what I'm used to in my limited playing with diesels, in that is doesnt have glow plugs but a 'thermostarter'.
ive kinda figured out this is like one big glow plug in the inlet that glows with the starter motor turning over and has diesel squirted at it that is then sucked into the engine and ignited.
but what is also has is a 'ignition timer switch'. the wiring code is labelled as-
'supply(+15)of variable resistor to ign. timer switch'.
the wire comes in with the main engine loom, and goes to a water temp sensor on the thermostat housing. a second wire then runs from the other side of this sensor to this thing that is mechanically attached to the side of the diesel pump by means of a short cable-
ive never encountered anything like this before, but i am basically right to assume its kind of an automatic 'choke', or temperature controlled diesel pump-timing adjuster? so as the engine warms up, it slowly changes the pump timing for better/more economical running?
if so, what do i do with the feed in wire? just connect it to a ignition switch controlled live feed?
