1990 BG Laser. Bought sight unseen for $1200 with 258,000 km on the odo, collected and delivered to us (1600 km) by my eldest son. This was reengined (secondhand with unknown mileage) at 499,750 cos it ran a bearing. Now our youngest son's daily it got a clean sheet wof/mot last week with a touch over 524,000 on the odo.

Got a Mercedes Vito in at the moment that's done 460,000 miles on its original 651 engine. The crazy bit is it's a 2019.

Couriers van? Loads of miles but relatively low hours maybe. Impressive anyway. Must have had the occasional oil change!

No it's a taxi lol. Was joking with the owner about him nearly been a millionaire as most round here charge £2 per mile. He's looked after it really well, most of the 651s seemed to wrap themselves up at 60-80k miles if not sooner hence why they're so expensive 2nd hand. This one is still on its original timing chain and it hasn't worn the side of the head away which is mad.

I have been a passenger in a Hiace minibus with over 800,000 kms on it. The driver reckoned he knew couriers who had similar vehicles that had done well over a million on the original engine. Continuous hot running probably helps with this.

In about 1993 I worked at a Peugeot dealership. We had one 405 Diesel Estate in Cherry Red that would come in seemingly every week for a service. I asked the service manager what the story behind it was.
Apparently it was owned by a courier company transferring documents between what were then the BAA airports: Heathrow, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton. The car was operated by a shift of three drivers and was in operation 24hrs a day, running between these locations. By rough, Google Maps calculations, it's about a 1200 mile round trip. At the time, Peugeots needed a service every 6000 miles. The last time I saw it the car had 360,000 miles up and had only really been started from absolute cold once, as the driver would always wait for the service and take it away immediately.

The original P 1800 Volvo mentioned at the start of this article went on to do 3.2 million miles and actually outlasted the owner of the car. His Name was Ive Gordon
