would you guys consider the E21 323i "retro"?
i'm thinking about getting one (one for sale locally for few hundred£££)
always fancied one with bilstien shocks and uprated springs to sort the handling, recaro front seats and some deep dished 14 or 15" alloys......dreaming again!!!
any advice on what to look at on these (other than overheating and rust on chassis / inner wings / top mounts and rear suspension)??
thanks in advance

Yep, if you like them, there's no reason not to go for it, if they're not retro now, they will be, and they're great cars anyway so it doesn't matter. A bit like a German Volvo 7 series.

Also I've been told that they all seem to have funny cambers on the back wheels when they're heavily loaded, (or was that the later ones?) although I don't know if this is true, so if you buy it and notice this then there may be no need to panic at all. But the main things to look for are probably that the servicing has been done vaguely correctly, there isn't any terminal rust, which could be the result of badly repaired crash damage, and on a car that close to modern I'd watch the electrics too, which again comes out of servicing really. And if it has a sunroof (most cars like that do, don't they?) make sure it isn't leaky, it could be disasterous for your interior.

BUY IT IMMEDIATELY!! ;D
Be careful not to go bee-emming backwards into the bushes though! These can be savage beasts!

That silver 318's great looking. It's really tidy too, must've really been cherished most of it's life to get to it's age like that. And original too, most of those around here have been 'chavved' up or 'ned-ified' with bodykits and big pointless 18" wheels when they get to that age. (Often to be seen cruising around Glasgow Central station or the Greenock Esplanade looking like they belong on a scrap heap.)

that would indeed be peachy - but also too pricey for my rat fund - which is diminishing daily - road tax for wifes car, 2 tyres for mine, looks like i may have to hang fire for a couple of weeks and hope it doesnt sell....

When I lived in South Africa a friend had a lovely 3 series, built locally as their version of the M3. I think it was badged as a 318S but actually had a 2.3 litre engine and alloy panels. Anyway it went like stink and as it lacked the series 1 M3's arches it was a real sleeper!
Them South Africans do like to do the big engine thing. For some reason they used to consider our Sierra cossie a bit wimpy, just because their XR8 had a huge V8 instead!

As there's three day's left to run on that BM, I expect it will get trotted up pretty high - probably around the £1500 mark.
