Just a quicky guys:
Whoever last "restored" my Pantera did it without a welder.
So there are rivets, fibreglass and brazed bits all over.
I want to remove the front wings but they are brazed on. Can I get a blowtorch to melt it - or would I need more localised heat than that?

You will cause so much distortion using a blow torch you need oxy really, then seperating joints on a large panel takes skill or the temptation to bend metal away to stop it rejoining is strong!

Might be easier to cut off the wing around the brazed area and then let in fresh metal.

^ Not how the Pantera is assembled i'm afraid, and at upwards of £1k for a new wing I need to be very careful.

brazing tbh is stronger than weld. if welded you could probably drill out rivets and crack the weld. If it was me, i'd use a combination of a chisel and a hacksaw. I know what you mean about wings, we'd used fiberglass ones on one we had due to price of steel ones. get some pics up might give us some ideas

2k degrees C afaik, which is the top end for most decent blowlamps.

When soldering (electrics etc.) you can use a small woven piece of copper to "suck up" the excess solder. Couldn't you use something similar to suck up the brazing material? Maybe there is even some sort of dispersant (compressed air?)? I know some car restorators use lead as filler, maybe they can be of help?

Apart from 2 puddled areas the brazing was so bad I ended up just slicing through it with one of those 1mm cutting discs - It took most of the afternoon - but it came out ok
I used to make stainless for a living and the highest we ever got that was 1600 deg C - so I think 2k for brass is a little OTT
