been reading up on diesel induction kits for a while and come to a few conclusions on the pros and cons but any input from someone who uses or have fitted one car in question merc 2.5 litre turbo diesel

Had one on my old Rover...zero noticeable difference, besides a smidgen of extra induction noise (which on a derv, is just noise! lol)
Unless you're going out for silly power, there's hardly any power/economy gains to be made

was just going for cold air feed into std airbox cos my thoughts were much what you stated

as above they do nothing , other than horrible noise, run a cold feed if you want but tbh i wouldnt bother,.

As above ran one for years on me 1.8 non turbo escort lots of noise but that was all lol TBH i only fitted it cos i smashed the airbox fitting a replcement engine

the only advantage is that if you get a washable one its easier when servicing, no gains in power though,

and wouldnt the heat from the turbo cancel make the cold air feed useless aswell.

wasnt going down any performance route just freeing up space having a reusable filter and maybe easier to spray damp start into
