Well, I had about the same budget - and bought the blue thing in mysignature. Why? Because I thought it looks nice ;D And because of the looks, it's always been one of my dream cars - and an affordable one at that Anyway; has to be something with RWD ;D And that Volvo is just excellent and would be much more excellent if it was an estate ;D I realy do like that shape of Volvo.

you get a lot of volvo or ford scorpio estate for a grand, volvo probably less risky as regards reliability i'd say though.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Hate to be a pedant, but the car in the OP is a four-door, not a five-door, and the 'three-door' Volvo you mention would actually be a two-door. You only refer to the boot as a 'door' when it's a hatch/estate; on a saloon it's just a boot. As you were.

Me A4 or A6 would be the straight choice but I like odd balls
Jeep Cherokee 4l sounds nice and has a certain wild card flavour.
E320 Mercs go down well also

Some days you just need to take a grinder to an inanimate object, just to make your day a tiny bit better!!

Had 2 E30 - don't fancy another Not really a tow car no E34 Touring would be a whole 'nother level, prices on the up now but £1200 would still net you a decent v8 auto or 525 manual. Finding a W123 in budget might be hard but they're nice too. Citroen CX for oddball win and Subaru Legacy for the oddly proportioned nomination.

I've just lost my old E34 Touring, it was a TDS (diesel) and had been chipped to release the performance that BMW removed from it. Having owned a 525i petrol saloon (24 valev) I can say that the 'de-restricted' TDS outperformed it! It was a very handsome and cool car but hard to find one now which is why I have ended up with a Rover 75!
But as you've already had an E30 Tourer you would probably just end up wondering what the Volvo etc... would have been like.
I borrowed a friends 240 GL Estate for a couple of weeks many years ago and loved it. Slow, boat like handling but still brought a grin to my face. Mush cooler than the rest of the tin in the car-park.
How about a Cortina Estate? That budget should get a minter with money to spare.
