I feel a euro style coming on ;D My second non-Datsun purchase in a week...what's going on?! ;D -Ed That colour = Euro style 100% ! hehe you've been spending too much time round here... Then again you are directly/indriectly responsible for a number of Datsun purchases by people on here. So its only fair to give something back

that is super cool! can you tell me some more about them? i know nothing, not even if its fwd or rwd .... It's a SOHC 1410cc FWD with a quite strange 4 speed box that has two sets of ratios like some 4x4's have. It basically has a lever next to the gear stick marke "power" and "Economy". I'm not entirely sure exactly how the system works. The tech spec only lists a single ratio for the final drive so somehow it must have an extra gearset between the main transmission and diff or between the engine and box. As for the rest, it's servo assisted discs up front and drums on the back. Front suspension is struts and rear is training arms and coils. Steering by unassisted rack and pinion. I'm not sure when this model came out.. maybe as early as '77 and i think they were sold until about '83 when they were replaced with the model that Proton later adopted. I've got a brochure for one but it's all in French. funnily enough the 2dr in the brochure is identical to mine... full on Kermit green ;D

I was reading a long term test of one of these recently in a real old Autocar... I'll dig it out again and see what they had to say. I remember them thinking that the gearbox was a bit gimmicky and didn't really have much advantage over a 5-speed once the novelty had worn off

It’s official, that is amazing! Extra cool points for it being 3dr and having the ‘big’ 1400 engine, over and above what it already earns by being painted that colour. Seen that shade in a brochure, but all the ones I recall in real life were silver, gold or metallic blue.
Presumably you can shift between power and economy when on the move?
Looks like those wheels are already pushed quite a way out in the arches – if you stuck some wide RWD offset-ish Euro-style wheels on it wouldn’t you need a lot of stretch? IIRC, even the standard turbo model had bolt-on arches. ‘Proper’ 114.3mm PCD I assume?
Ooh, isn’t there a rough-as-guts turbo for sale on eBay right now?

Yeah it's 144.3mm so I had a check of how my 6x14 Advans sat and even those stick out of the arches but I'd probably get away with them, especially if i could find some narrower tyres (currently they have 185'/50's on them) The front hubs are a bit awkward as they bolts that hold the discs on sit proud between the studs so rims with a flat mounting face won't go on. The advans will though... The 'box is most definately gimicky and probably not all that advantageous over a 5 speed for cruising but I guess you do have the option between a close ratio box and a normal one which a 5 speed can't provide. Still pretty unnecessary when you've only got a 1400 ;D You can shift it on the move same as the normal gears.

I'd wager it didn't have many owners before him though. The original bill of sale is still there in the paperwork. It was £3649 brand new minus £1000 trade in on an N reg Renault 4 The original owner was called Albert Tinkler ...a pensioners name if ever there was one ;D

It does look a bit better than it actually is. The rusty bits are fairly bad but it's mostly confined to just around the ends of the sills. It needs the body doing NOW as it it's left for another year it would get quite bad I'd think. It has been resprayed in the past which is good as it does make it look pretty respectable. I haven't got anything good spare at the moment in the rim department. i'm kind of short of cool rims myself at present. i sold virtually everything I had at the end of last year when I was super skint. I've seen a few cool sets on ebay recently but not had the spare wedge to go buying rims.
