Ok. On my way home tonight, my lights, blower, and wipers all stopped working. Turned the car off, started it again, and all fine.
What's going on?
It's dark and icy so not wanting to grovel about right now, any thoughts? the car's a 91, Scala.
Thanks!
Pete

It's the switch on the back of the ignition barrel, it wears and cuts the feed to the ignition fed accessories. Easy enough to change, and compatible with just about any other 80's VW. (mk2/3 polo and mk2 golf should both fit, not sure on passats ect..) They're avalible new from VW but about £30. I resorted to a new one after wearing out 2 second hand ones in my Scirocco. For the time being just make sure the keys right in the middle of the position and it should be fine to get you by until you get a new switch, both of mine lasted a few months just positioning the key right before finally dying.

No worries. Obviously I could be wrong, but it's happened to me twice in my Scirocco, and I'm not the only person I've heard of having the issue. Just have a fiddle with the key with things turned on and see if anything cuts out. Everything you've described not working is exactly what's on the ignition accessory circuit (the coil takes a separate live from the same switch position), so if it's not the switch, then it'll be something else to do with that circuits power supply.
