I've recently bought a 1997 L200 lwd 2wd pick up, unladen, i'm getting 20mpg max, as i put £20 in the other day and got back somewhere in the region of 80-100 miles,
i'm not driving it heavy footed in anyway, it seems low.....
Surly i should be getting high 30s?
Either way, what could be the cause of this, and how can i solve??

Your guestimates sound wrong to me. I'm assuming this is a diesel £20 of supermarket diesel at £6.40 a gallon is 3.125 gallons. 3.125 gallons in 90 miles is is 28.8mpg. Guessing quantities and mileage over such a short distance is never going to give a true representation. Your best bet is to brim it and work it out properly. Sounds alright for a 2.5l diesel commercial to me though

My merc did about 50, and that was bad. It has been stood, maybe i'll chuck some redex in it. However i cant find the official figures, just thought i'd be getting more than that

sounds about right for one of these, they are never that good on diesel as they're heavy beasts with old mechanical pumps, you say its 2wd so I guess its not the high up big tyre'd version?

80-100 to 20...... That's about what I get in my small European hatchback. So for a big pickup that doesn't sound too bad.

Had two L200's for work both crew cab 4x4's but obv used in 2wd 99.9% of the time, used to get about 10mpg round town rising to about 18 on a steady run @ 80 going to Norwich and back (regular journey for me) my 4.6 Range Rover was better on fuel...
