And in the same vein of making things more comfy I finally got a decent hatch spring cover, painted it black and fitted it. Hatch sprig cover. by quickrack, on Flickr And I got some reasonable doorcards which I repaired and fitted instead of the alloy ones I had cos they acted like cymbals Much nicer now. 190320145549 by quickrack, on Flickr Hatch sprig cover. by quickrack, on Flickr 190320145555 by quickrack, on Flickr I also fitted a really early heater cover after finally connecting up the heating ducts. 190320145553 by quickrack, on Flickr Here's how the dash looks now. 190320145552 by quickrack, on Flickr I have borrowed a 3 spoke, flat spoke type, steering wheel to try out but the boss is so deep I don't see it being any different.... photos when I take them in the morning. However a lot of the effort to make it quieter was twarted by the 2 piece propshaft I'd fitted. It was squealing and knocking and rattling and horrible. A mate though, in need of a spare bit or two, happened to have this 190320145557 by quickrack, on Flickr A professionally converted sierra one Will get that in tomorrow morning. Cant wait to try it. Will also be cutting snd bending and welding the gearlever to TOTALLY clear the handbrake as its a right pain hitting yer hand instead of 2nd gear. Opinions etc welcome. keeps the motivation up!

Never thought of moving the handbrake... I am going to cut the lever on the outside edge of the bend, straighten it out some (enough to clear my finger/handbrake/pain interface ) and re-weld it.. Hopefully I will get a test drive in my improved escort tomorrow. Or I get to remove the gearbox and try to find a replacement..... Wish me luck!!

Had to take my Springalex off cos I couldn't get my fat belly between it and the Recaro I am on a diet for the same reason. Have cut out bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and take a wee walk most days. Lost 9lbs in 18days so far. Also means my escort is now faster

Well I had her out for a couple of spins in this nice spell of weather. But what started as a wee tremble under braking quickly became a shake. Inner TCA bushes I suspect. But worse was a knock from the left rear. Looks like my new exhaust was too close to the shock to start with and moved closer. Enough to melt the cover. And I think, the seal. Best case will be a loose bolt but I think its doogened. Will get under it tomorrow. Cant face it now.

Turn your exhaust clamp around to gain a few precious mm What orange is this? I know someone who's having a mk2 painted signal orange and I was expecting is to be really bright like yours which is awesome but it's a bit of a let down

Work has begun. I have minimal strenght in my right hand (thank you oesteoarthrosis)so I can only do so much at a time. Its on axle stands and I have the inner tca bush replaced on drivers side. Before and after bushes Inner TCA bushes by quickrack, on Flickr Also have everything loosened on pass. side. Whole strut coming out as I need to fit a new top mount. Strut top. by quickrack, on Flickr Also rotated the problem exhaust clamp. Now some advise needed please. I was thinking of lifting the exhaust almost all the way to the floor. Doing away with the rubber hangers. And adding a flexible join to take engine movement. This will free up another 1.5 or so inches. What do you think?

When I make exhausts I cut the hangers off of scrap exhausts (I work in a garage) then you can use the proper rubbers that fit tightly, weld the chassis hanger up a high as possible so the rubber only just fits between it and the floor then the exhaust one level with the bottom of the pipe that way the exhaust is as close to the floor as possible and tight on the rubbers so it won't knock I apologise now for the poor sketch I hope that made seance

It does. That alone would give me load of clearance. I remade my hangers already to raise it some, so re redoing them is no bother. Thanks.
