Still no gearbox!! However I happened upon a Corsa B, being broken, so I bought the steering column out of it cheap IMG_20190513_124627 by quickrack, on Flickr I've since cut or unbolted the bits I don't need off it. Fun!! I tried on the steering wheel and its a match. I'd heard its a bit hit n miss but mine fits fine. Yippee So. This week I will fit my new steering rack, that I've painted a few times, and power steering. IMG_20190518_204825 by quickrack, on Flickr IMG_20190518_204834 by quickrack, on Flickr Wish me luck. More as and when I measured the length of the column and the length of the power steering and subtracted..... IMG_20190623_194904 by quickrack, on Flickr Filed the shaft to a tight fit in the clamp and then the 3rd side as a very tight fit and bolted up the weird bolt. Now "all" i have to do is make an upper mount to bolt everything to and wire it in. IMG_20190623_194857 by quickrack, on Flickr IMG_20190623_194846 by quickrack, on Flickr Oh. And make it look at home. This below is the Mk1 shroud. I hope it will be useable and hide the P/S. And I did fit the new quick steering rack but I don't seem to have photographed it. How odd!.

I don’t know if I’ve missed it, but why do you feel the need to fit PAS to an old Escort? It’s a long time since I have driven one, but I don’t remember it being hard to steer. Could be old age playing tricks on me of course. 😀

Me thirds that question ^
My mk1 esky with a 1600 xflo had lovey light steering.
However I figure if you've gone fitted a quickrack then you'll now have slightly heavier steering to cope with. That certainly was the case with the Rotary chevette when I fitted a quickrack to it.. although it wasnt heavy enough to need assistance.
I'll probably fit electric PAS to to my Viva wagon if I fit another V6 though.

I run PAS on my mk1 Escort rally car. With a 2.2 turn rack with 7" wheels with sticky tires and a curse word load of caster added it's bloody hard work when your going. I did an autotest once and by the 5th test I had to stop half way round for a break as I was knackered.
What it does do when your competing is knock hell of a lot off your times. I may add I'm 45 and not fit😁

I fitted the same set up to my 100e..made a massive difference. And makes driving it so much easier with an historic shoulder injury!

Mojo being a bit of a roller-coaster these days, I decided to chip away at some things that were annoying me in an effort to get back into enjoying my garage time. 1st. The banded wheels all had slow punctures. Therefore every time I wanted to use the car they needed to be pumped. Annoying as hell! Also after asking opinions on this very site, on why the car had not attracted a buyer when I'd had it for sale, one of the most common comments was the purple wheels. Therefore I had them sandblasted, (€60) sealed welds with Tigerseal, etch primed them and will be smoothing them off over the weekend. I am still a bit in awe of them! IMG_20191225_153010 by quickrack, on Flickr Merry Christmas everyone.

Some sanding and more painting occurred. I think I might have to tone that paint down a bit?? Yeah, they do make the purple look subtle!

Yep, I found I needed a fair bit of non-metallic grey mixed in to soften silver paint. It'll look great in the end though.
