I wasn't really happy stepping down from the twin 40's. But I cant currently afford a set. Then a mate pipes up with "have you ever seen a LYNX??" I had! This is his Mk2. Also owned an arched 2.0 Mk1. And is building a zetec Fiesta. Cool dude. DSC_0662 by quickrack, on Flickr So I have borrowed the manifold. DSC_0679 by quickrack, on Flickr It clears the dizzy easily. And I have the loan of a 40 Dellorto, one of a pair, with an option to buy them afterwards. So I trial fit it. DSC_0680 by quickrack, on Flickr But no way will it fit with the filter on, so the filter had to come off also. Trial fit again. DSC_0724 by quickrack, on Flickr That'll work. I need to buy smaller trumpets however I'll get it driving before spending any more on it. Found this a while back DSC_0726 by quickrack, on Flickr This happened with huge help from son No.1 DSC_0725 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_0728 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_0727 by quickrack, on Flickr All to get this mostly!! DSC_0730 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_0729 by quickrack, on Flickr received_1729624933738550 by quickrack, on Flickr The man with the carbs needed a differential. So I got that one, he has fitted it to his Escort and its quiet!! Yah. Thats a lump off the price of the carbs!

Coil dead. Spare coil dead. Coil ordered. Feckin cars. Made a throttle bracket. Made a battery clamp. Insuring it tomorrow as thefts seem to be on the up.

So I gave in. Too sore and grumpy, impatient and inflexible. Avoid bridges lads. Car is gone (flat towed it) to one of the few I would trust it with. Noel Lappin. He maintains/rents out rally cars among other thing. He is going to get it driving, starting, stopping. Going to ensure its road legal. He is also going to weld in anti tramp bars and the sill end I have prepared (Rot is cut out ,treated, painted & the patch is bent & trimmed to fit). The exhaust is getting lifted even more as its still grinding a lot. Coil issue is unknown but it hasn't killed the new one, yet anyway! So far all its needed is an off-on-on light switch, indicator stalk, flasher unit and fluids. Can't share the photos as Flickr are doing maintenance atm. Will put them up later. I am very excited.......:-)

A wee video of it running!!!!! Haven't driven my wee car in 3 and a half years! I had a bad crash... lovely to hear it running. MOV_1801 by quickrack, on Flickr7 Took it for a drive to get petrol. Wouldnt start after. Discovered the wires had come off the starter and I got burned trying to get them back on. And I don't even mind! Test drive video uploading...

Took it for my 1st drive in 3.5 years. I took it off the road to replace a whiney gearbox and between work and a subsequent accident I have had a very difficult time with things, including this. Was great to get out in it again. Even a wee breakdown (wire fell off starter solenoid) that burned my arm while repairing, didnt knock the smile off me. MOV_1804 by quickrack, on Flickr Sorry I cant seem to put the video here but its on my flickr acc.

Sanding is, evil, disgusting, boring, horrible, dusty, smelly, noisy, time consuming, nasty, and satisfying! After the sill ends had been repaired and a few other bits of bodywork were sorted, the car needed touching up. But, I discovered, that you cant "touch up" pearlescent paint! Whole car needed doing and no way can I afford that right now. curse word, hell, damn and indeed fiddlesticks! So I needed a different plan. Here's what I came up with. Meet, Interloper! DSC_2110 by quickrack, on Flickr received_1982094511824923 by quickrack, on Flickr received_1982094765158231 by quickrack, on Flickr Then yesterday and today were spent getting the car running on twin 40's amongst other things. Below is a LYNX brand inlet for a single, twin choke, side draught carb. But. I didnt own the intake. It was a mates. As was the one before that. DSC_2111 by quickrack, on Flickr Time to bite the bullet. IMG_20180423_105507_863 by quickrack, on Flickr IMG_20180423_105431_303 by quickrack, on Flickr I had the carbs already so all I had to do was fit them.... Then I realised the fittings were incomplete so a quick look on ebay found the correct fitting for £20 and the bolt for £12 FFS Nope. No way. Not on your nelly. A quick trip to the local breakers found the appropriate bolt and a fitting for free, mowt, zilch. "I'll get you next time Alan" he said. I bought a few inches of fuel line, half a dozen decent clamps and a T piece and connected it all up. Next I needed a stop for the cables so I broke out the CAD. DSC_2258 by quickrack, on Flickr A bit of bendy, drilly action and I had a metal version . DSC_2259 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2260 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2261 by quickrack, on Flickr All cabled up etc. MOV_2272 by quickrack, on Flickr Thats a wee video, if you want to hear a crossflow idle on 40's for 15 sec or so. Then the fuel needed topping up so of course the key broke in the thing!! After much fiddly dismantling, greasing, pin loosing and replacement finding, it finally looks good and stays on. However it no longer locks. DSC_2270 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2271 by quickrack, on Flickr The Piece De Resistance embellished by non other than SWIMBO DSC_2274 by quickrack, on Flickr Lots of outdoor shots will be provided tomorrow as we are going to my local Vintage Club's Annual Show. I hope you enjoy the update as much as I enjoyed trying to balance those ancient (but cheap) carbs with a length of hosepipe to my ear!
