Good to see you're up and about! How quickly did you reach boredom threshold, and start getting stir crazy? No time. Once I could stand really. Have you any idea how much the tv schedule is made up of repeats Unfortunately i do ..... Been off work since end of Jan ...... 4 weeks having to lie down with very very intense back pain, dosed to max with Tramadol, only able to watch tv and surf net on ipad .....then emergency back surgery......... No pain..... But not allowed to do anything ....... Stir crazy don't cover it!

The engine is perfect as Its freshly rebuilt. Changing to a twin choke down draught from twin side draughts. So its just getting a good clean and a lick of paint. I will attach the gearbox to save me some lifting and dragging under the car. The gearbox is a 2.8i capri unit. They have a lot better ratio's in the lower gears. Its now cleaned and painted ready to fit. DSC_2488 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2490 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2491 by quickrack, on Flickr And one half of the engine stripped and cleaned. Mk2 springs are much more common and a lot cheaper than the Mk1 version. They are also 10mm wider. So I fixed that and cleaned them up. DSC_2584 by quickrack, on Flickr messenger-quick-cam-1463841124946 by quickrack, on Flickr Found an original Mk1 rear exhaust box hanger so thats one job made a lot easier. I only need to make an L shape to weld to the box with a bolt-hole in. DSC_2590 by quickrack, on Flickr Rust treatment DSC_2591 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2592 by quickrack, on Flickr Then my eldest kid came home from college so I immediately set him to work taking the axle out DSC_2603 by quickrack, on Flickr It took a good deal of heat and wd40 to get the shock bushing sleeves off the mounts DSC_2608 by quickrack, on Flickr Unimpressed with the paint on the AVO shocks. DSC_2612 by quickrack, on Flickr Then discovered the hoes in the sleeves were 12mm but the Mk2 bolt is 13mm. Queue on trip to the hardware and €7,50 for a drill bit. Need a new handbrake cable as well messenger-quick-cam-1464544981571 by quickrack, on Flickr Last but most certainly not least I found that my axle seal was leaking. curse word curse word curse word. DSC_2634 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2635 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2636 by quickrack, on Flickr DSC_2637 by quickrack, on Flickr So now I need new brake shoes and halfshaft bearing as well. The quick tidy up is getting expensive.

The very bottom where inner sill & the strenghtener and outer sill meet, was a curse word to seperate. My drill (Argos cheapie) got stuck on hammer action. It ruined my spotweld bit. So I asked my Dad for the loan of a drill. He got together with one of my sisters who I was visiting for a birthday party and they gave me this messenger-quick-cam-1472327628783 by quickrack, on Flickr Delighted. Drill all the welds and took all this curse word off DSC_3302 by quickrack, on Flickr Just needs a good clean, treatment and preventitive painting. DSC_3303 by quickrack, on Flickr Almost have the patch panel finished. But forgot to take photos. Slow progress but nonetheless its getting done!

Got out the melty metal magic stick. IMAG1587 by quickrack, on Flickr Then the terrifying wheel of cutting metal/skin/bone came out and removedthe crusty bits from t'other side. IMAG1581 by quickrack, on Flickr Patch was then formed from a bought panel. Says its a Mk1 escort part but I think its mislabeled Possible for a washing machine? Or maybe a garden tool. Bears no semblance of compatibility to my car anyway.... IMAG1582 by quickrack, on Flickr Yet to glue this on. Modified the tranmission to allow the bigger gearbox to fit, without feeling like I'm sitting in a steel drum! IMAG1584 by quickrack, on Flickr Back at it as and when I can Thank for looking..

All good except the bulkhead. Does it just need touching up with paint?

All good except the bulkhead. Does it just need touching up with paint? No. It bent the metal. But I hope to knock the worst of it out from inside before touching it up. Thanks

Ah, that's a right pain, I think we have all been there, but at least there was no trip to A&E and you have the skills to put it right. James

Engine in is one of those satisfying jobs that feels like a big step closer to getting it on the road. Nice one dude!
