Hi,
Looking good, there. While I'm off building extension to my house, you have full steam ahead!
MX-5 filler cap looks good but your fuel tank filler pipe is on the back end so are you going to have a long pipe and tubes to feed it?
You can do Ali TIG weld, too!? Man with many talent, very nice indeed. I should have finished my decorating house soon so I shall start my Mini build as well Midas RWD project. So expect me to ask you few questions!
Cheers Atchi

Building roof chopped, screen raked '68 Mini with G13B 1.3 16v Gti engine with LSD, Yamaha R1 carbs. As well as mk1 Suzuki Swift Gti AWD with a turbo. Drives PHEV Outlander but wishing my mk1 Swift Gti or mk2 CRX Vt were still with me!

Hi Atchi,
I thought you have been a bit quiet on the car front. I'm renovating as well and to be honest its taking up time & money I could be spending on the car..... How is the Mini poject going.
I must confess that the welding is not mine....I wish, but a guy I work with.
I'm going to turn the fuel filler down pipe about 70'Deg and extend it with a thin walled S/Steel pipe with rubber joiners. It will be run through the boot floor and routed underneath.

Hi Dave,
After my 3rd girl, I needed to build extension above my garage for an extra bed room as well as toilet and shower... 3 girls...I'm sure they will be having a lot of showers and baths between them!
Anyway, my Mini is in my mate's garden and my Midas is waiting for me in my mate's garage. I also have a mk1 Suzuki Swift Gti which will turn into 4WD with turbo... not by me this time! Oh I also have a Mini shell my mate gave me as well! But my better half doesn't know of all cars I have...
My '68 mini will be my eldest's and my Mdas is my 2nd one according to them... haaa. Good job I got more than 4 cars then. Enough with my projects, I think you are doing good job with yours. I think you ned to make your wheel arch slightly bigger than as it is for full travel of your suspension. It looks good what you have done with card board template!
Cheers Atchi

You must like being busy Atchi. Thats alot of cars. I struggle with just one project.
Your right about the wheel arches. I like the look but may need to adapt the shape a little to get the clearance for travel.
I look forward to seeing more pictures of your projects as they go forward.

Good progress there Frank! Blimey; making a former to bash out a tunnel cover is dedication! Should result in a super-professional looking finished item! It's coming together nicely!

I like this build, there seem to be a lot of triumphs on here, looking at the back suspension it strikes me on how easy it would be to convert this to rocker arm suspension and liberate a lot of space at the back, of the car,

Thanks Em....I don't trust my skill level so a cheap bit MDF and a couple of hours and it should be Frank proof. I've been promised my front suspension next week so should have some more pic's to post over the next month.

Great Idea about the suspension. Never really thought about it. My main plan was to use as much of the donor car as possible and this way I can replace the standard MX5 coil overs for off the shelf performance ones later. I plan to get out on the track so you never no what could evolve later...... thanks for planting that idea in my head.

That crossed my mind as well.......but I like the idea of a welded in, no leak metal one. I will leave some access panels for getting to the gearbox mounts and sensors and just pull the Motor & Box for clutch work if required.

Love them capri's, l had a mk1 a long time ago started restoring it but never finished it ended up selling it to a block who was restoring a RS3.1 more good progress on the herald a steel trans tunnel is a good way to go as it will add a lot of strength to the front body and if you add some verticle supports up to the bottom of the screen it will reduce scuttle shake a lot.

Not being picky, but won't supporting the radiator off the engine cause the support to crack eventually?

I've got the bottom Rad mounts located on the chassis but will probably brace the top back to the suspension brace that will run around the front of the motor. I want to have some sort of rubber isolation so it doesn't vibrate back through the chassis when the cooling fan kicks in.
