Thanks Speedy,
I think once the car is painted they will look even more subtle. Hopefully I can make a nice set of steel ones. I've got a sheet metal roller at work so will have a crack at a later stage.
I've cut and modified just about everything else on the car so cutting out the arches wasn't to hard a decision to make and to be honest I didn't have much choice.

How odd..............looks really good condition, even the door gaps look good!
Any progress on your motor? or has life been getting in the way.
I'm building up the doors at the moment so not much to report.

Hi Rob, Glad your making progress mate. Things have stalled a bit due to work and winter being bloody cold . I should have some new front hubs to show off soon so will post pics. Aiming to get a rolling chassis by xmas. The Coupe has had a restore hence condition and nice gaps. Always better than when they exit the factory. Still very original.

I've been wanting to fit this filler off the MX for ages. This position is very much where they are mounted on the MX5. It's got a cable release lock so should prove very functional and leave the side of the car where the old filler was nice and clean looking. I still can't manage any decent welding with my cheap as gas-less welder or maybe I'm just curse word at welding. The latter is probably the reason most likely.

You were lucky there with the filler matching the deck surface Missed your previous update with the hubs looking good with double wish bones

I only know of one person that can manage reasonable welding using gas less, I certainly can not, and I seem to manage well enough with my portamig on gas!

Good to hear that news- I thought it was just me. I'm ok tacking good fitting thicker steel and if I zig zag the weld it seems to weld alright. Thin metal-No Chance. Still a good tool for piecing a project like this together.

Awesome work mate! Been wating this keenly , good to see progress!
I use gassless too (see my Alfa 75 thread) and for thin stuff do not try and do a continous weld, lots of quick zap spot welds in a row is the way to go.
And make sure both front and rear of metal is clean. Clean the white/grey dusty slag it creates away if it goes onto the area of the next weld or it will not weld properly.

Thanks for your advice on the welding-I'm getting better and will apply your knowledge to my next welds. I've got some sheet metal off cuts so should practice some more first. Yeah it feels great to make some obvious progress for a change. Glad you like it-Starting on the Engine/front diff and gearbox mounts next.

I'm sorting out the bolt on mounts for my front suspension at the moment. I want to kept the suspension removeable so I can easily modify at a later stage. Off to get my Custom Top/bottom A-Frames made next week. Very keen to get a rolling chassis ASAP Below is the link to my front suspension geometry and measurements. www.racingaspirations.com/suspensiongeometry.php?tcx=92&tcy=83&thx=332&thy=65&bcx=84&bcy=278&bhx=354&bhy=289&scl=1I checked the basic alignment with a string line and level and the back looks like its about right. I've got Camber & Caster adjustments on the rear so fine adjustment will be easy.

Looking good.
Any improvements that can be done to a Herald chassis can only be a good thing!
I'm also looking at making some adjustable wishbones for the front ed at some point
