Thanks guys for your feedback. I must admit I'm a bit obsessive about this forum. Never been a "Blogger" if that's the right term but now totally sold on this now. In saying that, it's only this site and only because I enjoy looking at everyone projects and getting advice and help from like minded car nuts.
Em's car is far more visionary than mine-whens the next update Em. The "I-Beam" seems to have worked out well which was a relief.
Rob, remember the car is at ride height so the shocks need to be mounted in a compressed position (coils to come out for that) & the angle of the photo makes them look taller than they are-I have done some measurements and I'm confident it will all work-there will be loads of cross bracing-Height will be no different to a set of McPherson struts.
I've always been good at visualizing concepts and 90% of this project is done in my head so the proof will be in the end result no doubt.-
You got that new camera yet Rob?

Em's car is far more visionary than mine-whens the next update Em? He he, thanks for the compliment but I dunno about that! Rover V8 and Jag IRS is pretty tried-and-tested stuff; I think it’s guys like you, Seth, Mighty Mork and Rob that are breaking the Herald moulds around these parts! Sub-zero temperatures and unfavourable work/life balance keeping me out of the garage at the moment, but expect a degree of progress within the next couple of weeks. Or possibly longer...

Personally not a big fan of the wheels, but this project is brilliant! Yeah I noticed you guys in the UK seem to like the old school (widened steelie) or classic look when it comes to wheels. When I got them I wasn't sure but now have warmed to them. I got these because I wanted to expose the big brakes and Disc's. Sort of like a modern Audi or BMW with large brakes-More a look than practical to be honest. I think it will work for me but hey I can change them as there are so many wheel options these days. Maybe a poll is in order but if anyone has any suggestion's or comments as how I should go with the wheels then go for it. I enjoy constructive advice-that's the beauty of this forum

Hi Em, I though the weather might holt a few of you UK lads work. Summer over here so not an issue. I'm over next month so am going to catch up with Seth in London and also try and see Rob in Colchester (sorry bout spelling Rob) Wouldn't mind a look at the beast in the flesh or maybe the herald crew could meet for a beer and talk car curse word. I'm only there for a month so can't stalk you guys for to long.

Hi,
I see you got chamber adjustments but how about toe in/out? I don't know how I would make my jig for my project. I see you have made yours with timbers. Did you fit your tyres to your setup then made jig or not? Tell us how you have done it as I will need to reduce my setup by 400mm to fit in my kit car!
Cheers Atchi

Cheers Atchi Hi Atchi Both lower rear suspension arms(Fore & aft arms) have camber adjusters so toe-in can be done each side with these. I had my wheels on to start with and set it up so the Tyre's fit under the guards. (just measured of the body between the rear guards)) I then measured my wheel off set (+48 in my case) plus the tyre wall past the rim so it won't rub and set my jig up to suit, less both wheel offsets & tyre clearance. I hope this makes sense

Just don’t bring any overalls or I’ll set you to work…! A pint and a bit of car talk sounds good too, I’m sure we can organise something. Look forward to meeting you!

Hi,
Yes, it does make sense. but it means that you can only use what offset you have designed with. Oh well, I'm using 14" wheels for mine with 185/55 14. should be big enough for sub 700kg car then. What's your suspension setup like? How much travel will you have with your setup?
You must tub your inner wheel arch to make you you don't get tyre rubs.
Cheers Atchi

Cheers Atchi Hi Atchi When I started I purchased wheels with a large off set as I knew I had a narrow car and this would mean my suspension could be as wide as possible and get my wheels under the guards. You can use any wheels but the less offset the more you have to reduce the suspension width to get those wheels under the guards. I still may have to flare my arches a little and possibly tub the inner arches. I've got a fair amount of body work to do inside the boot area so I'll address this after I get the rear suspension sorted and try and drop the body over. Not to sure about wheel travel yet but probably 3-4"only I look forward to watching your progress-good Luck. Make sure you post heaps of photos. Cheers, Dave.

Thanks Dave,
I have now bought alloys myself for this project. I think my offset is 38mm and 6J so I should be work out from this vales. I will be flaring my wheel arch to make it better looks as Midas kit car has narrower track width compares to the front. Keep up your good work as I can copy you!
Cheers Atchi

These will be cross braced down to box frame on the opposite side. I think the body will sit on the top of the coil over mounting bracket (plan in progress) then a horizontal cross brace will bolt between the two rear towers when the body is on.This will tie the whole lot in and keep the body on in a roll over. Still a whole bunch of work before I have a rolling chassis-diff mounted, coil towers, suspension brackets (turning up today) and then I have the front hubs, A-Frames and suspension mounting system. Loads of work. On the plane Sunday week so PM your number Rob. Get those new photos up mate with ya flash new camera ;D I want to see your progress. I know its been cold so I'll let you off if you haven't done much.

It's all done and finished in my head-lets hope it looks and works as good when its all finished eh. Do I feel a hint of "not sure this will work" syndrome. Some laser cut suspension mount parts just turned up- Progress !!!! ;D

Those mounting brakets look really good and give it a professional finish l see now what you are doing with the rear setup, really should handle well and be able to corner at speeds only a herald could dream about ;D definately think you will need convetible anti-burst catches on the doors ;D

I'm hoping it will handle a little better than the old swing axles. Heralds were only made with parts rated for 70mph max ;)so maybe I need to do a few up grades like the door locks. I'm trying to get all the rear suspension pivots tacked on so I can put the back wheels back on - feels like you getting somewhere with wheels on

Top progress! There's something about seeing accurately cut box section and neat new brackets going in that hints at the level of awesomeness that this car is heading towards…!
I think this is shaping up to be something really rather special.
