Here it is then, the new project! Ive gone halves on this with my friend Amy, who is also on this forum.Bought a bit spare of the moment via Ebay, saw it at the last minute, and went for it.Think we've got a bit of a bargin(although may not look like it!), as it was listed in the wrong place, under bycycle spares or something?! Either way, we have it, its at the workshop, and we'll see whats what. Its a non runner, missing its fuel pump, and looks like its not been taxed since 1997.Showing 55kmiles, prob gone round once, it is in a bit of a state.Think rust is going to be the problem here, but, its all complete.Ive had a look around the appropriate forums, not posted much yet, but cant find much info on these 4i turbo's. Its got the proper TT plate under the bonnet, but I didn't get a picture stupidly! Anyway, have some pics, comments or thoughts welcome. We are brave, or stupid, or both! ;D

Awesome. Weren't 4i's built by karmann, unlike the standard cars? The biggest problem you'll find is rot under the bodykit

As said above look for rust behind the bodykit its a dirt and salt trap, also check the rear chassis arms, the MK1 Sierras I had all rusted there and a rotton 1 with the pinto turbo 2.3 I think , was american spec and left hooker,. That one would have been a Merkur XR4Ti

I will get round to finishing it at some point

Your not stupid, just brave!! In all seriousness though, it's a really interesting project Random how it was listed on eBay, still a bargain for you! There of plenty of people selling panels, and spares for them. My friends brother has got a five door mk1 Sierra, he's tracked down alot of panels & trim second hand and new. And mechanical parts is never really a problem, after all it's a Ford!! The rot shouldn't be too much of issue, as long as your handy with a welder As it happens a friend of a friend has a mk2 Sierra with a Turbo Technics conversion, it's not on the road yet either so ill be interested to see how you get on! Good luck with it.

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

I had a 250bhp turbo Technic's xr4x4 10yrs back was a amazing bit of kit. the type 9 will cope with the power as long as its in tiptop condition and not been replaced with a 4pot one as they aren't as strong as the V6 ones, Mine ate 3 of the 4wd T9's before a MT75 one was fitted. Get the heads sorted as well if its the 230-250hp conversion it will have add the chambers played with and the pistons were stock one's that were machine'd down by around 1-1.5mm to lower the compression, A call to TT with the code numbers should get you all the info about the kit. Will be keeping an Eye on this build

(there's not a lot in it just 5mm longer needle bearings in the V6 box ) and all to do with the input shaft not reaching the crank bearing Although the XR4i did come with a H/D V6 box with a propper bearing race on the input shaft instead of the capris needle bearing input shaft, TT cars converted from new will of had a few tweaks to the box to strengthen it, like a thicker top plate, whats the F number of the kit ?

I've heard of loads of cars driving around without a long enough input shaft, please correct me if i'm wrong, but one example would be most 2 litre converted s13's running stock boxes? Anyhow, AWESOME project, really looking forward to progress, consider yourself bookmarked

Fastest car i even seen take off :owas RAJ989 (now on BMW 735) -Sierra XR4i Janspeed Twin Turbo. It was owned by asian guy local to me I was wondering whether the OP's car was it - but that had a wrap around rear spoiler and not the factory bi plane. And iirc it was red

Bortaf- The only number that I can see is the one that looks like its etched into the TT plate under the bonnet.looks like F8?Amy's done a bit of research todsay, and come up with F16/18/19/25 and 37, but not 8.Unless they forgot to put the '1' infront! Anywhere else it might be stamped?Turbo perhaps? Grifterkid- Granada's doing ok.Progress stopped for a while as I lost storage for it.Sorted that now, so hopefully get the ball rolling again! Cheers everyone else too! ;D ;D

Well we finally got it up on the ramp, took some pushing to get it there but we can now see what lies beneath! The pictures do show an awful lot of rust but to our suprise its actually quite solid. Still just a bit of welding to be done! Next job, Dan wants to take off the rest of the body kit to see what the rust is like under them Fingers crossed it isnt too bad!
