Looking at a few different cars, And although a bit new, My girlfriend has a mk1 saxo, And its not too bad to drive, Its small, great on fuel and i like the way the mk1 looks.
So I'm tempted to buy one...
BUT
anyone know what ones were 4 stud? I know the smaller ones are 3 stud, But at what CC or spec is the change to 4 stud?
Also are vts/r brakes an upgrade? and will they swap to standard saxo legs/ beam? Standard 1.0 3 stud brakes are pretty poor.
Wouldnt mind doing something a little more RR with a saxo ..... Clean, Subtle, Nice choice of wheels... VEY LOW ;D

Everything is interchangeable on them.
Key is buy a derv one mega MPG, 4 stud already, only thing lacking is brakes as they are crippling, 238mm solid discs are awful, pending wheel size you wanted to use as 13" wheels will go over gti/vtr/s/306 247 vented, how ever the 266s from 306 hdi/Berligo and such like also bolt straight on but require 14" wheels.
AM pretty sure the flat arch versions were 3 stud minus the Derv and east coast were 3 stud, I know the west cost was 4 stud but shared the engine with the 1.4sx which was 3 stud.
The conversion is easy enough thou if you have the parts, althou there are some really nice 3 stud wheels available that also work out cheaper than the 4 stud versions.
You can also upgrade 3 stud brakes to the AX GT versions.
Have a look round 106owners for other info (as the 106/saxo are pretty similar)

Some days you just need to take a grinder to an inanimate object, just to make your day a tiny bit better!!

To be fair, VTRs are for pence nowadays, and do 40mpg. I'd probably just get one of them. Insurance is only group 7. A lot have been barried about a bit, but even something like a 51 plate VTR is worth maybe £750 for a nice one. A decent Mk1 VTR is probably £650?
To turn a 3 stud into 4 stud, you might as well change the full front leg with ones from a breaking car (VTR/VTS), that way you get a bit of lowering, vented disks and also mounts for an anti roll bar. To put the ARB on as well you need to swap the wishbones for the "tubular" ish VTR/VTS ones.
I'm not 100% sure on the rear - The drums are different diameters (165mm for 3 stud, 180mm for 4 stud) so I'd assume you need to swap the backplates, shoes, mounting hardware and the wheel cylinders are coming up as a different part too. I'd guess the stub axle is the same, but if not they just press out of the trailing arm (if you can get some heat into the arm it makes this a LOT easier.
Don't be tempted to put rear disks on. They are a waste of time, even on a car with a VTS engine. The calipers are usually halfway seized, and the handbrake with them is curse word.
