For Sale: A 1995 BMW 540 Touring Auto fitted with a Stag 300 Sequential LPG system currently showing 192K miles. The car is taxed and MOT’d until Feb 2012.
I have owned this car for the past 3 ½ years and love it to bits. I’m only selling it as I have a new job and a Mondeo Turbo Diesel company car (ugh!). It does 20mpg on gas no matter how you drive it and at 68p per litre is cheaper to run than my 61 plate Mondeo but you have nearly 300 hp to play with.
The car is in good general condition with some rust scabs and marks but it is 16 years old. Full grey leather interior with a good quality Clarion CD head unit and 6 CD changer.
It has a set of Style 71 BMW 17 X 8 Cromodora Split rims that need refurbing but they still set the car off really well. The tyres on the front are good but the rears will need changing in the next 2000 miles.
Comes with BMW cargo nets and load cover.
The engine was changed at 81K miles by BMW due to Nikasil problems and the engine is really sweet and uses no oil or water. It is due an oil change though.
For the next MOT it will need both anti roll bar links as they rattle a bit and the handbrake shoes adjusting apart from that it should sail through (as it has in the past 3 years).
These are the last of the properly built BMW’s and this one will probably go on for another 192K miles without any issues. These are really reliable cars. All I’ve ever done to it is service it and change tyres and brake pads.
I really am sad to see it go as I always wanted one of these when they were new but £ 45K in 95 was out of my reach but it isn’t being used anymore.
It is recorded as a Cat C (I got it with a broken indicator and damaged front wing).
I’m after £800 for it which is what the LPG kit costs but I would swap it for a decent 125 or 250 motocross bike.
