I'm am sadly selling my panel van, it's a great van and my daily drive. It needs some work to be its best, but it runs well, looks cool, has a long MOT and has lots of potential.
Basic Spec:
VW T3 panel van
1.6 turbo diesel
54,000 miles only (believe this is genuine)
5 speed manual
MOT to 08 / 07 / 12
Tax to 31 / 01 / 12
Engine has 1.9 injection pump fitted
Notable exterior changes:
Lowered suspension (not sure by how much)
Tinted windows
5 spoke Merc alloys with good tyres
Notable points on interior:
Very comfortable Vauxhall front seats (originals included in sale)
Original 3 seat bench seat in the back with belts
Headlining
Fully carpeted in rear
Walls lined in suede
TV
10 CD changer
Leisure battery
Will add some more photos tomorrow.
All electrics and gauges work 100%, electrics are neat and tidy (not bodged!)
It is extremely reliable, it starts first time every time and has never broken down, stalled, popped out of gear, over heated or anything else since I've had it... I use it every day, plus have done several very long motorway trips in it and its been good as gold.
Like I say it needs some work so I have made a very honest list below of what needs attention, but do bear in mind that this is a very reliable van and with a bit of time and effort could be a really nice example, or even if left as it is it makes a very practical daily drive. It sailed through it's last MOT with only a couple of advisories for corrosion and slight play in wheel bearings.
Engine:
Kicks out quite a lot of black smoke when you put your foot down, a friend who is a mechanic has taken a look and says it is overfuelling, so it is probably as simple as retiming the injection pump to solve this - a pretty simple job.
One injector seal needs replacing - very simple to fix.
Bodywork:
As far as I can see the underside is bang tidy and this was confirmed by the MOT mechanic.
There is a fair amount of rust on the panels though - most patches can just be ground back and repainted, some will need a little patching with a welder. The most drastic bits are the top of the nearside A post which will need replacing and the nearside rear wing.
The bottom of the sliding door and the boot need attention / replacement patches, and both front doors have a hole in them but I have two very good replacement front doors which are included in the sale.
The paint job has been done pretty badly - so to be honest I would say that you would want to patch up the rust and then respray the van. It is ok as it is but that is what I would do to really make it look good. There's definitely a lot of bodywork that needs doing but it's by no means terminal! The sliding door runner is fine, as is the area around the petrol filler.
Interior:
The only thing worth mentioning here is that the heater blower doesn't blow - it could be a very simple electrical fix or it might need replacing, I haven't investigated.
Other:
Off side wing mirror needs replacing.
Windscreen could do with replacing as it has several chips, but they did all get through the MOT so they seem to be ok.
So, basically to get it really up together the engine could do with a basic service and fettle, the body work needs some welding and a respray and a few ancillaries need some attention. Not a major project and could easily be done as a rolling resto.
I am looking for what I paid for it, £1750 but am open to offers and possibly a part exchange - preferably for an uptogether MK1 Golf or Caddy - but if you've got something else, try me
I'm only selling it as I have a custom Morris Minor project in my workshop and don't have the time or money to run this as a rolling resto along side that. I will be very sad to see it go.
Feel free to ask any questions or for specific photos. You are welcome to come an view it at any time - I am located in North Dorset, in Gillingham.
Cheers,
George
