picked one up dirt cheap (£90) with T+T too, what's y'all's opinions on them then its only a 1600CL so it has a 4+E box but a has Weber fitted so pretty nippy, well compared to my daily drive, a VW t25 panel van

A friend of mine (whose Alfa 33 is sat on my drive still!) got an '87 Scirocco 1600 GT on Ebay for £91 no T&T, it was red with 14inch BBS cross spokes, Koni dampers and springs and was mint, i think it also had a 4+E box.
It had the standard Pierburg carb which he always had problems with (it would never idle) but apart from that was one of his favourite cars he has ever owned. It had sharp turn in with great lift-off oversteer on wet roundabouts with amazing feedback through the wheel. It also had a slightly blowy exhaust so the over-runs sounded great. We rebuilt the brakes and the CV joints on it, one CV was so full of grease that it was causing it to overheat.
I remember trying to drive through busy London traffic with it with no idle but it did look great in the reflective windows.
He sold it on for £350 about 9 months ago...he wishes he hadn`t.

Great car!!
I had a MK2 GT and i loved it. More intresting then the Golfs though they are great cars to.
My Scirocco had dodgy electrics in the end which no one seemed able to fix so I got rid of it. I would have another one tomorrow!

I say the Scirocco's a great car! Those are getting rare too, it's been ages since I seen one on the road.

With a few subtle mods Sciroccos are lovely cars.
The Mk1 is ace ... but getting very hard to find.

thanks for the input, i'm beginning to feel i made a good buy and might keep it once i've told the missus about it glad i asked here rather than VZi cos i get the feeling that most VW owners don't really like the 'rocco

A mate had a mint one with about 50,000 on the clock but he sold it on & the other kiddie promptly wrote it off & another had had a couple aswell - he's a VW man ;D GTi at the mo' & never had any real probs with them mech or body..... As said though, the Mk1's are the ones to have if you can find them. There was a blue one featured in RC's I think & that looked the dogs'
