Sorry for the slightly dull question, but I need to know the maximum towing capacity for a W126 saloon.
Talking to Onne some time ago, he mentioned a figure of 1900kg, but I've since seen figures of 1500kg!
I'm assuming different countries have different laws - I saw 1900kg on an Australian website as max braked towing capacity, but European figures seem to be less than that... and then US forums are throwing other figures about!
I need to make sure it can do the job before I rush out and buy one! ;D

Hi Dean, looked it up, as below: The little 4 states that it's for the (less powerful) catalyst equipped vehicles. The 260SE has the same figures

Thanks Onne! Didn't mean to doubt you when you said 1900Kg, I just didn't know where the figure was from. Now I know!

I would add that it depends what your towing, where and how far. I would never tow anything that weighed more than the tow on the motorway for example. But I might nip around the corner with it. But then I'm scared of most things

But then I'm scared of most things Yeah that's another concern I have. A W126 weighs about 1600 kg, so towing a car weighing 1200 kg on a 500 kg trailer would be within the limits of the car, but maybe not very wise to tow regularly on long distances.

My 420SEL (with LPG kit) weighed 1820Kg if that helps - verified by a weighbridge (when I towed a Vectra to be scrapped... ;D )
