Going to be putting a car on eBay this week, next week... its MOT'd and insured but the tax is up today. Its PLG tax. I can either SORN it or I can pop another 6 months tax on. I will keep it insured and offer the buyer to tax it at their expense if I SORN it.
Question...
As a buyer would you be put off a car which was SORN? Would I get more for it as a taxed car? (ie as much or more than the cost of the tax?)
I happily buy untaxed cars but I'm not normal LOL

i think not having tax will put people off. main reason being that its another thing to sort before you can legally drive the car away. I've bought untaxed cars before and in all honest they have sold for a fair amount less than their market value. Average joe public simply don't want the hassle, they want a car they can pay for and drive off in on the same day

I'd rather it was taxed to be honest. Then you can buy and drive away without having too worry all that much. That said, if there is a present MOT and the buyer just wanted me to pay for the tax, I'd not be too put off; but I do think it'd negatively effect the value.

personally not taxed doesnt bother me but people sometimes think "why didnt he bother to tax it". its easier to sell with tax as like said people want a car they can just drive away without the risk of being pulled.

people sometimes think "why didnt he bother to tax it". ^^ This. True, you won't get the money back from taxing it, but you may well sell it quicker and thus save yourself the time/expense/heartache of repeatedly re-advertising it.

I've pretty much always bought untaxed and just gone down on a weekday and nipped to post office after viewing the car.

I wouldnt tax it. Its not a test, its a legal formality.
If a car isnt taxed I normally pay the seller the extra and have them tax it for me before I pick it up.

SORN it. It won't make a difference to a serious buyer.

What is it? Daily/Retro obviously makes a difference.
Other thing you could do is say you can tax it for the buyer at their expense.

I've had to SORN mine because of the new laws. Thats what i'll tell the buyer as well. If i could keep it taxed, i would as i think it is always slightly more appealing. I think a T&T car is always nice but like retroturbo said ^^ if its a serious buyer, it shouldnt make much of a difference.

Its the Cadillac. Hopefully it will be finished today and then I can get some nice photos and pop it on eBay, Car & Classic, etc.

I would not tax it in your shoes. You will make more money as well as sell it easier with the tax but I doubt it will be over £130 more.

Id tax it, at least then it can be used for test drives/to stick petrol in it. Other wise, it cant really leave your drive until it's taxed, so no test drives.

If its not taxed a prospective buyer cant be taken for or given a test drive and it cant be driven home at the end of the auction without faffing around trying to sort the tax. Buyers always have more confidence in an on the road car. IMO

Caddy is a big thing to have to trailer away, taxing it would lend me more confidence as a buyer so that I could in theory hop in and drive it home. As pointed out above, it would also give me the opportunity to test drive it, which I'd probably want to do too.
Personally, I'd prefer it to have some tax on it so I can drive it home straight away, but only because of how big a car it is. Were it something more Allegro or Escort in size I'd be happier to pay trailer fees and tax wouldn't bother me so much.

For the sort of car it is, it's (probably) not going to be bought by one of the plebs Pog speaks of, there's a very specific market for cars like that. IMO, most buyers for a car like that will understand.

Advertise it with "Can be taxed for buyer". WHS "Can be taxed at buyer's expense", which will allow them to haggle the price inclusive of tax, or not.
