Which wheels look good on a mk1 MX5?
BBS split rims? Azev A's? Slots? Minilites? Banded steels? Any others?
Whats the RR consensus on the subject?

Arches and banded steels is my favourite I think the steels are in keeping with the Elan look, or paint them bright orange for euro scene points. These don't even look banded, but I still prefer them to the alloys... ...mostly because of this. Never seen slots on an MX5 before, think it would look cool though Lots of 5's on Minilite (style) wheels, I've not seen one I like yet though.

To answer the question, they all look good, at least in my mind. I second the Three-Spoke suggestion, the red MX-5 in the linked thread is rad

Are these the factory steels in un molested condition?

On second thoughts, they must be banded. These are standard - Nice and subtle though, especially with them in standard colour.

The banded steels look brilliant if you're going down the retro Elan look. Has the Elan got knock of wheels?

Plenty of wheels look good on mx5s. Personal favourites are .... Work Equip 03 Watanabes ( cue pic whoring of my old mx5!) and don't neglect the 'track' style wheels rather that old skool dish... Enkei RPF1 Buddy Club P1

Has the Elan got knock of wheels? Mark Yes, pin drive I believe rather than splined.

Big modern rims work just as well as small old school rims on MX5s. Personally, I like them on small rims as you can sit them lower to the ground and the proportions look good. Zero offset 7x14's with 165/60R14s sit nicely without any need for arch butchery (okay maybe a little rolling). That's what there are...

I think size is pretty important to these, anything above a 15 looks a bit large to me on these , I was going to stick my 16" Compomotives on my MX but they're just too big for it really. Another consideration for me at least is the weight of the wheel, the Mazda wheels are incredibly light weight and part of the joy of owning mine at least is the pin sharp driving experience, I can't help but feel larger wheels are going to ruin it. At the moment it's sat on 14's, ideally I'd like to put another set of light weight wheels on with a bit of dish, but nothing larger than a 15 really.
