Hi all, I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help as I don't really want to join a Vauxhall forum ;D I'm on step 1 of project 'Flying Turd' - a mk1 Astra with an XE/SEH or something similar lump in it. I have got hold of a set of the good old ATE 256mm brakes from a Calibra/Cav SRi/Astra GTE. The quandry I'm having is, will they fit behind 14" steels? Some people say yes, some say no, some say yes but a bit of caliper shaving is needed... Is this safe? I hope they will fit, the sleeper look needs to be maximised Cheers, Tom

I had a mk1 Astra saloon with an XE and I remember having to get 15inch cavalier wheels as they snagged.
Try bm vw wheels as they have different offsets.

Ah so it might be the wheel offset rather than the size thats causing the problem?

What you have heard is correct they wont fit under 14" vaux wheels with out some 'modifications' however i'm unsure when different offset wheels are concerned. The MK1 has room in the arches for some lower offset wheels so that might be worth a try?

Might be mate yeah... A guy on mk1oc has just said to set to with with the grinder. I'll see what's what this week. I really hope I can run Vauxhall 14s as the plan is to keep it looking as close to stock as possible. Nice TSWs by the way

They will fit under 14 inch Vauxhall wheels. Most of the cars they left the factory fitted to ran 14 inch wheels. You need to be carefull though as while the majority will, the odd ones do not for some reason.
Astra GTE 16v/Mk2 SRi 130 used the ATE callipers and the alloy wheels are 14 inch, for example.
Crucially to your question, my Mk3 Cavalier SRi left the factory with 14 inch steels and has the ATE set up. Most 2.0i Mk3 cavs have the ATE 256mm setup beind 14 inch steel wheels.
I'd advise testing any wheels you look at if possible, but it shouldnt be hard to find some that fit.

they are 13's looking at the design!
But if they are 14's then those are likley some of the ones they wont fit.
I had my spare on the front of my Cav the other day so know that fits over the ATE brakes, if you want me to take a pic so you know what to look for let me know.
