I've just got a towing dolly and i need to get some brake parts for it. THe problem is i have no idea on what make/model.
Can anyone recommend a good (cheap) supplier of brake parts for trailers?
Also how can identify what i need i.e. part numbers where should i be looking?
Thanks

can you get some pics up? I identified both my braked trailers via a photo of the shoes and then a trawl through ebay looking at their pics 1 turned out to be ancient, even down to BSF threads!!! Still got ID though ;D

There's lots of different ones so pics would definitely help. What stud pattern is it? Are the brakes operated by proper bowden cables and how are they adjusted?

Just had a quick look but can't see anything Are the backplates on 4 bolts? Change the whole thing if you can't ID them?

Take the shoes along to a decent parts factors - they will be able to help. My local branch of Partco in UK stocked stuff for most trailer makes. They were also able to get old shoes re-lined with new material if new stuff was not available any more.

re line was my next suggestion as thats what I am doing due to rarity costs for mine, over 50 per hub for brake shoes !!
bearings can be measured and matched easy enough.

Recently I've had to spend far too long working on trailer brakes which also involved detective work to find out what I had. So although it sounds as if mdw is now sorted, others might find these suppliers useful: www.trailertek.com/Good next day delivery, or if you're local (Micheldever Station, nr Winchester) very helpful & knowledgeable service. After lots of googling, I still couldn't identify what I had, but the chap at Indespension in Reading (Richfield Avenue) identified the rusty bits I showed him in an instant and had the £10 parts in stock (saved me cost of two suspension units which was the alternative) On another trailer, like Grunty, I was faced with the prospect of having to pay a lot (£80) for a set of brake shoes. That's almost against my religion. So, if you have a Lockheed braked trailer (metal rods going into the back plate) try : Wilmond Engineering at www.towingequipment.co.uk/acatalog/Lockheed_Brake_Spares.htmlBrake shoes for £40, much better. (Sorry for being boring, but this might help someone out. Let the normal program of interesting cars continue!)
