If no coolant then no worries as nothing to freeze and expand.
Dumping the water out of radiators over night used to be a common way of avoiding frost damage on lorries.

aslong as all the inlet, exhaust, and coolant holes where bunged up, then there shouldnt be to much wrong with it. give her a good coolant and oil flush first though.

The Pinto that Mike Ds just put in his Capri has been sat outside on my patio under a tattered bin bag for over a year and it's fine. If it's been covered then it'll probably be okay.

I swapped the engine from the thames van to the consul. The van had sat in the field for the best part of 6 years with the coolant and oil in it. I just changed the oil over , swapped the carbs and it sparked into life.

All engine are diffferant but i started a Xflow after it was standing for 22 years with just fresh petrol and a battery and loads of pintos that have sat for a decade or so, only thing is after a good few years the stem seals crack appart other wise they have to be getting wet a lot to be knackerd usually.

Sorry to throw in a post from the other side, but i bought a 44k mile 6yo Ibiza engine which had been fully covered and sitting on a pallet in a breakers for only a few months, i found rust spots in the bores which were too deep to hone out with stones, it needed an overbore.
I've bought loads of engines from breakers without a problem, so i don't know what happened with this one.

I would say you should be safe. The engine I bought for my old Mondeo was in a very damp container for around 2-3 months. It runs like a dream. We bought it with 70k on the clock (supposedly), it is now on 210k miles. That had no inlet manifold, bits of the filler cap down the manifold etc.
