I fitted one to my 1600 Scirocco and it worked fine.
Previously it had a 2e2 which the PO had spent the best part of a hundred quid getting sorted and I had then converted to manual choke due to a duff waxstat.
The car felt more responsive with the Weber, but that sort of thing is very subjective. The spring on the throttle was much lighter which made my foot ache on a long motorway journey as you couldn't rest your foot against the spring back of the pedal. Trivial to put right obviously, but I never bothered.
