Well day started with me putting the steering rack in the right place! Basicall involved moving it down the bracket a bit. You can see in this that the steering arm is now fairly in line with the bottom wishbone. Then after lunch.... the engine! Started by preparing the engine hoist! My dad made it out of a few pieces of 2x2, some skirting board and a random piece of angle iron, but it seems plenty strong enough! Next, wheeled the engine into place and started to lift. I thought that having had the sump off for over a year there wouldnt be any oil left in it! So, bolted the sump back on and lifted it up..... and a massive pool of oil appeared! Visible in this picture! Up up up and lots of newspaper! Up up up and the car wheeled underneath. Down down down and into the bay! And roughly into position (will be a bit further to the o/s) And some other random pictures I took ;D Enjoy! Adam

Thats my inspiration, not my bible It is quite inaccurate actually, plus the only part of mine thats actually the same as the one he built is the front suspension! Rear is IRS with Sierra XR4x4 diff and shafts, the floor is steel and plenty of other differences! A lot of help has come from www.locostbuilders.co.uk. Adam

I've seen that book so any times and always wondered, one review I've just read said you can't build it for the price unless you happen thave several sheets of ali and some tubing lying round

And you're able to get hold of a Mk2 escort and some Cortina uprights for pretty much nothing!
Mines cost about 10 times that so far!

Locoster - £2,500 for a chassis and engine?! :/
You gonna strip the chassis and get rid of the tinworm before it sets in?

I've seen that book so any times and always wondered, one review I've just read said you can't build it for the price unless you happen thave several sheets of ali and some tubing lying round You used to be able to when the book first came out but steel prices and mk1/2 escort prices have gone up a hell of a lot since this came out. Not a hope in hell now though

Well... we have most of the bits to complete it, and thats cost almost £2.5k. Nowadays supposedly if you are to build it like Uncle Ron then £1k is a sensible budget.
Any rust isjust surface rust. Once its all welded we'll send it off to be shot blasted and powder-coated.

Right, today the GSXR 1100 engine was fitted! Tomorrow I'll weld up the mounts properly, paint them and take some photos.
Last time me and my dad lifted the engine in easily ;D
