Hello folks, not been on here for quite some time but have started sniffing around again. I have recently restarted work on my old Escort Mk3 Cab. The car has been totaly rebuilt (albeit a good few years ago now) but not used as the project stalled half way through a Zetec conversion when I started project wife and kids. I am having to revisit many areas largely just to remind myself what I had done and how far things have got. However, I am starting to wonder if I'm flogging a dead horse as I would much rather be building an old Rover (SD1 or P6) or something else old, british and cool. So what do you fine folk reckon? Is the first FWD Escort cool or is it a lost cause? Here's a rather flattering pic of the car taken before the paint went flat. And of the engine part way through fitment. and here's a photo of the kind of car I'd rather be playing with: With a nice BMW six conversion Smiler.

I love the mkIII Escort - I've owned several and have nothing but good things to say about them. But if you'd rather be building something else, then why bother building the one you're not sure about? You only live once, you should do what makes you happy.

Always been cool in my book, even when they were new. And I don't really like fords.

I think they're cool, but luckily they are old enough to be attracting a big price premium yet (RS models aside)

Well at least they appear not to be the lepers of the retro world.
Having had a think about it, if I abandon and flog now I loose everything. If I plod on and finish it (which will take about a year with only having lunch breaks to work on it) at least I'll have something to show for it which I could then sell (at huge loss) to fund the next project.
Best get looking for a scrap Focus to grab a few odds and ends from the inlet manifold from.

They've always been cool! ;D I even thought of them as being retro back in the 90s! But then cars did have a much shorter lifespan generally then. My Dad's Essex buit Mk3 Escort was utterly destroyed at six years old!

Wow! Thanks for all the replies, after reading that lot (including the two other threads which it turns out I had participated in) my Mojo is feeling topped right up! I shall attack the car on monday with new vigour! First job will be to pull the interior out again, then carry on with the inlet manifold fittings and start wiring it up!
Thanks again everyone, that was the spark I needed. I shall carry on and get her finished and then enjoy for a year. Then decide what to do (Corty should be making progress by then).
Cheers,
Smiler.

Ta very much. Sadly it's nowhere near as nice as in those old pics. Needs new front wings and could do with a new lower valance (gone along the edges at the wing joins). It also has a large hole in the boot floor and a few crusty areas developing around the rear. I do love it though.

But to echo what's been said above, if you're not sure, and would rather me working on something else. You gotta have what u're happy with otherwise it might just put you off cars and the hobby.
